If they change DDP by not having the tip included will you still purchase it?
I'm not sure if we will but we enjoyed having the DDP last year. We went with another couple and their son last year and it took all the question of who ordered what and who was responsible for what part of the bill. We loved that because it made it so much more comfortable at bill time. I wish they did not always have to change things when the customer is happy. We are staying for 12 days this year and there will be 6 of us so we figure it will add about $500.00 to $600.00 for the tips. That may be on the high end but we did eat at really nice places and a lot of our dinners were over $300.00.

It depends on if they reduce the price. If the price is the same, that's really a big increase!

The topic of tipping changes and the Dining Plan has been discussed quite a few times in the last few months. (As a matter of fact, at least six times recently the topic has been locked  ...

... so folks should be aware that rehashing any of those discussions is prohibited on the DISboards.)

Our moderator, Pumbaa_ is very quick to remind folks that there has been no official announcements of plans to change the Dining Plan for next year, and, until there is, discussions regarding the change should be appropriately limited.

There are quite a few threads about this very subject that have not been locked. Most specifically:

"would you still book the Dining Plan if gratuity is not included?"

and

"Poll regarding speculative dining plan changes"

and
"Who will no longer use DDP in 2008?"
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1477143

All three of those threads include a poll, the results of which folks may find interesting as well as the discussions. :thumbsup2

There are also some other threads, again about this exact question:

Enjoy!

We are going for the 3rd year in a row Sept for free dining. If they make us pay tips, there will not be a 4th year in a row!

I think free dining would still be a good deal, especially at a value (because of the lower price of the room vs getting a discount with room only). A $40 meal you would have to pay $7 or $8 for the tip.

IF they eliminate the gratuity, I don't think that will change the basic formula. Whether DDP is good for your family or not will depend mostly on the composition of your group and how you would dine without DDP.

Whether they keep the price the same or reduce it makes a difference.

Whether you drive to WDW or fly and DME makes a difference.

The amount of the premium you are paying on your lodging to be eligible for DDP makes a difference.

There are a lot of factors, and they are different for every family.

If the gratuity is removed and DDP still makes sense for your family, it still makes sense for your family.

If it doesn't make sense, it doesn't make sense.

When they finally announce the 2008 DDP, I will sit down and do the math for my family. And, if the calculations come out close, I will weigh using DDP against eating meals at some of the very good offsite restaurants.

DDE would definitely make more sense for us if we have to pay the tip anyway!
