If the resort I want is booked....

We just made plans to visit WDW from 8/14 through 8/21 of this year and we're definitely staying at BC. I'd like to rent points so I posted on the rent board where some needed to sell their points. The DVC member checked availability and there is none for a studio during the time we plan to vacation. I have a couple of questions based on this situation:
1) would it make any difference if someone's home resort is BCV? Meaning would I have a better chance at locating availability?
2) How often can I post that I am looking to rent 125 points during this week so that I can keep having those dates checked without becoming a royal pain to people? I don't want to go against etiquette.
Thanks for your help in answering my questions.

At this time, it doesn't make any difference on where the points are owned. If it was more than 7 months out to arrival then ONLY the points from a home resort can be used to book a room at that resort. Less than 7 months all points are equal to book an available resort.

If you agree a price with an owner you could ask them to go on a "wait list" so DVC member services would notify them if the booking became available. IMHO it's a bit of a long shot, BCV is a small resort, August is a relatively popular time, this summer is looking VERY busy and the ability to quickly get back to the hotel from a number of parks so you can take a couple of hours round the pool makes BCV extra popular to non BCV owners over the summer.

If you HAVE to stay at the BC, I would try to make alternative/standby arrangements, if it's more the location, I would look at BWV if available for now, go on waitlist for the BCV and switch bookings later ( if they become available)

Thank you for your quick help. We already have arrangements at BC just in case.

I was checking on availability this morning for the first week in August, and again on a ressie extending thru the 16th, and both BC and BW were sold out for those dates on both a one bedroom and studio. There were rooms at WLV for part of the time, OKW part of the time, and SSR. It doesn't make a difference if you are a member at that resort or not, we all get the same info.

If you want to stay at BC for sure, and you know a room is available, then you had better rent it NOW. As others have noted, it's a small resort and availability is very limited no matter when you are looking to go. I guess I don't understand why you are not reserving a room now--do you need points? If so, go on the rent/trade board and advertise. If you have your heart set on ONLY BC, I would suggest booking later this fall.

FYI, studios at BCV are very often sold out early, and this is pretty close to your expected travel dates. You could go on a waitlist, but there would still be no guarantee that it would come through in time, and you could be without a room. As the previous poster said, quite a few of the DVC resorts are full for studios and 1 bedrooms for that time. Because BCV is one of the smaller DVC resorts, it will have less available than the large ones like OKW and SSR.

We have already reserved a room at BC with my AP. With points being rented at around $10 or $11 each, the savings is very attractive..it's nearly 800.00. I was just trying to go for more savings.
Thank you for taking the time to post to my question.

siouxi31 - IMHO, it's too late to rent points for this coming August. As the others have said, BCV is popular and it's also one of the smaller DVC resorts. It's probably a waste of time to post again on the Rent/Trade Forum - very few owners will be willing to tie up their points hoping a waitlist will come through.

It won't help for this trip, but if you go again next year, start looking to rent at least 7 or 8 months in advance if you want to rent points stay at the BCV in the summertime.

Have fun on the trip!

Best wishes -

Would you be interested in BWV? There's probably no Studios left over there either, but a 1-B/R standard view villa is 214 points for your trip, or 89 points more than the BCV Studio. At $10/point that's about $890 more, or just $90 more than what you're currently reserved for a BC hotel room.

Although there's no guarantee any Standard View 1-B/R villas are available either.

Studios at BWV are 107 points for Standard View, and 125 points for Preferred View, for your vacation dates. But as stated, there's probably no Studios available at this late date, either.

Unfortunately a 1-B/R at BCV (or Pref View at BWV) is 256 points so that would run you about $1310 more than the Studio would have, or $510 more than your current BC hotel. And again, someone would have to check availability.

If you really want BCV (because of SAB, etc) then you're probably out for this year, but maybe next year, especially if you can plan at least 11-months in advance.

I hadn't really thought about booking so far in advance but now I think I'll try for 2006 (end of April) when I turn 40. I kept telling my husband that I'd like to spend my 40th at WDW. I think now is the time to begin planning that trip as well
Thanks again.

That's another time that is going to be difficult because of Spring Break and Easter. It will be VERY crowded at WDW and DVC will be full as well. This would be the time to be looking for renting though.

Good point, Diane.

OP, in 2006 Easter is Apr 16th, and DVC's premier season goes Apr 9th - apr 22nd, so you might want to avoid those dates. But keep in mind that Disney will still be crowded for all of April.

BTW, you have one other alternative nobody's mentioned yet. Have you thought about actually buying your own DVC membership?:goodvibes A week's stay in a Studio at BCV for the last week of April would be 134 points. At $10-$11/point rental, that's almost $1500. That's equal to 10% down payment on 150 points. Just a thought.

I am also planning a trip for April 2006 around Easter and have already booked at my home resort, OKW. I am hoping to get into BWV or BCV for 3 days before or 3 days after the Easter weekend. Anyone have an idea of the chances of availability at those resorts at the 7 month window?

Probably will not be availability for a standard view or a guaranteed Boardwalk view at BWV, but chances are good that you can get a Preferred view - Pool/Garden at 7 months. If you aren't already, plan on calling as soon as the 7 month window opens - I'd do day by day if if it were me. And I'd waitlist by individual days if necessary (but I don't think it will be).

Best wishes-

Yes, I do want to buy into DVC. I've been pushing it for years but my husband doesn't want to do it.

siouxi31 - You have a beautiful family. :flower:

The only other thought I had for you, was to keep your reservation at the BC but continue to watch the rent trade board. Alot of times, people post that they have a studio already booked but are unable to use it. I know matching your dates will be a long shot...but you never know. Stranger things have happened. Throwing a little pixie dust your way. We stayed at the Yacht Club 2 years ago at the end of August and we have 3 little ones. Stormalong Bay was lovely. Good luck to you!
