if the hurricane hits, any recourse to points that expire Nov 30?

My wife and I had a long planned trip to DW that was scheduled to begin today (sept 9) for a full week at Boardwalk Villas, but was cancelled because of Irma. We used 90 banked points for part of the reservation. We are now told we will loose all 90 points because we can't rebook before Dec 1. Even if we could, there are not 7 consecutive days available anywhere. The so called DVC supervisor was uncaring and continued to only quote their corporate policy. We were given the option of using them towards a RCI property...my response was that we are DVC members, not RCI members. Disney, it seems, has decided to forsake its members at the hands of Mother Nature. Poorly done Disney, poorly done.

I disagree. I do not think it is Disney 's fault. They have a pretty generous policy which you must Fall outside of. If like OP you have banked 2015 points I see not extending them

Hmmmm, guess we should be able to see into the future according to your thinking. Not so sure what you think is fair about trying to do the right thing and then being penalized by something completely out of anyones control. It's not that we WANTED to cancel/postpone our trip. Even if we wanted to reschedule within their timeframe there's no availability.

No, not at all.
That is what travel insurance is for - future issues

I figure I'll be losing the banked 2016 points that I was planning on using on next weeks trip. I have already had to cancel Monday night due to my cancelled flight which was only 16 points. But now my Tuesday flight was cancelled out of Atlanta and I can't get another flight until Thursday with all the folks trying to move flights. That pretty much covers what was left of my banked 2016 points.

I'm actually considering just cancelling Tuesday night with member services and cancelling my flights and just driving to Orlando on Wednesday. I'm just waiting to see what the damage is before doing anything more.

This is one time when it's a pain to be a DVC Member.

I know that it is frustrating that you have had to cancel the trip and that you may end up losing points because your points have already been banked. As mentioned, this is really the reason why travel insurance is so important. I learned that this year when I thankfully bought it for a cruise. Weather delayed our trip and we almost didn't make it to Miami. The airline could care less about it since it was weather related and when that happens, they aren't responsible. It cost me about $600 extra money for an additional hotel and airfare to make it there. The insurance I purchased reimbursed me for it all. The fact that Disney and DVC even have a policy to work with members to allow them to get back points without the holding restriction and to bank points beyond the deadline, when a hurricane impacts the vacation, IMO, is a fortunate thing.

I wish there was a way for you to be able to use them and not lose them.

That really stinks. We are piece mealing our vacation between CC villa, a CC cabin, and BLT because we can't find anything with 5 nights and we already had the cabin for one night in our original plans and I didn't want to lose it since we likely will never get that opportunity again. IT is what it is... This is the problem with booking a vacation so close to our use year end date. I really wish I had understood the use years better when we bought because I would have never bought a dec one since we usually book sept/oct each year. Yes, it stinks that I had to rush to piece meal it together instead of DVC making an exception due to the hurricane and allowing another 3 month booking window. But in reality, we have had these points since Dec 2015. We should have used them by now... IT is our fault for not planning better and letting them go so close to expiration... The hurricane just emphasized our stupidity. I know others won't feel the same but that's my personal take, while going through it now...

Don't give up yet - there are openings here and there. Sounds like you have a studio so that might be harder but maybe you can extend the vacation by one day and stay in a 1 bdrm through a split stay. There were several of them when I looked earlier today. We can't fit in a studio so I never even looked.

I too would side with DVC on this. IMO they have a more than generous policy. It's only reasonable that the affected member should incur some of the risk and cost for the RESERVATION and independent of their other costs like air. We had an exchange in to NOLA for Jan following when Katrina hit and had no options other than trying to reschedule. The exchange companies (including RCI) put the risk squarely on the member once they accept an exchange. Remember this really isn't DVD, DVC or Disney giving you the benefits, it's effecting your fellow members.

I'm just curious about this and maybe someone like Dean will know the answer. If they were allowing already banked points to be banked into the next UY, then wouldn't there be more points than actual rooms available for that time period? If so, wouldn't someone get shut out, possibly those
who weren't even a part of the hurricane mess? Maybe that's why they won't/can't make an exception.

Potentially but it's a small % of the points. It's really no different than say if VB were leveled but they planned to rebuild, the members there would be able to use the points at other DVC locations at 7 months out per the POS. And it's really a lot less points than that situation. This is different than many timeshares where if your option is out of commission, so are you. As for how much effect and whether DVD would step back on their owned points giving up that availability in favor of the members, I really can't say but I suspect they would.
