If MK closes due to capacity on Thanksgiving......

no. they will not let you in, even with an ADR if the park is closed to capacity. I would go to MK early and stay if you absolutely must eat at LTT. It is going to be crazy busy that day though. I am personally not going anywhere near the MK that day!

Thanks PrincessMom29. Looks like we'll be spending the day at MK........ugh.......looking forward to LTT but not the crowds in the park........was hoping to avoid the crowds that day :)

How often does the MK close on Thanksgiving? Crowd level is only listed as a 7 for that day. We have an ADR at CP at 2:15 PM that day and don't even get to Orlando until 11 am...so the earliest we will be able to get to the park is 1:30 or 2:00 assuming no delays.

crowd level was a 9 for that day last week when I checked. I don't think it happened last year, but Iwas told when planning that it was a real possibility so we planned for it.

We arrive at WDW on Thanksgiving day around 11am and plan to go to MK and have a 7:15pm adr for Tony's. IF MK closes due to capacity before we get there, I'm guessing 2-3pm:

1) how will we be able to find that out before we go there?

2) if they close MK, what are our alternatives for Thanksgiving dinner? We are not renting a car so off site is not an option. We are staying at AKL. Would other restaurants be able to accomodate us or are we just left with CS and chicken nuggets as a substitute for turkey?

I guess I would just like to have a gameplan in mind so I don't freak out and let something like that ruin my day/trip. Thanks.

You can ask about closings at the resort when you get there. I would look at making a back up ADR now at one of the resorts as walking up to anything on Thanksgiving Day will probably be a problem, especially at AKL as they have some of the more popular restaurants.

If it is a phase 4 closing and the park is closed to all incoming guests they won't even let you near the parking lot.If you are relying on the Disney bus system they announce it on the bus and will also not be allowed to drop off at the MK.Your options would be to either try to get in as a walk up at your resort ,another themepark,or another resort eatery or Counter service.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. We were there 2 years ago on Thanksgiving and it was not too crowded. Last year we were there on Christmas Eve and that was super crowded and still the park did not close. I had to make a last minute ADR for Thanksgiving yesterday (I thought I had booked one and realized yesterday that I booked for the 19th, not the 26th :confused3), and CP had ADRs for lunch that were still open. So I can't believe it will be too crazy.

I posted this on another thread but I'll repeat it here. We've gone every Thanksgiving for the past eight years and stay offsite. We don't arrive at Disney World until 11:00 or noon. We have never seen any indication that any of the parking lots are closed on Thanksgiving Day. And for 2009, we've gone for each of the three day weekends and the crowds have been very manageable. On July 4th, we were able to get a Soarin' FastPass at 11:24 with a return time of 2:30-3:30. I don't think park closing is going to be an issue for 2009 for Thanksgiving.

hmm, I never thought about Thanksgiving day being crowded. But I called the dining reservation hotline and asked them about being locked out of the park if it fills to capacity. The CM I spoke with said not to worry about it...First, Disney Resort guests should still be able to get in - but secondly, he said that if I had my confirmation number with me that they would also let me in. So I guess, I'm going to cross my fingers and spend our morning at the Animal Kingdom then head over to the Magic Kingdom in the afternoon 2 hours before our reservation (just so we have enough time to in case I do have problems).:tinker:

The CM you spoke with is wrong, wrong, wrong! The parks close in 4 stages, and if it reaches stage 4 no one gets in, it won't matter if you are staying on site or have an ADR.
