I walked with my brother to get his haircut at this place next to publix idr the name the lady was going to the back she was the only one working there the place was crowded my brother stayed there and i went to hallmark next door i came back 10 minutes later and she was still back there! not working goofing around doing nothing! she had not cut anyones hair! i sat there for another 10-15 min she was still back there and i could see her back there NOT doing her job people where starting to get really annoyed and we all left! so me and my brother had to cross a bussy road to go across the street to get his haircut and ended up walking home in the dark!

:mad::mad:

If my spelling is horrific this time don't complain about it get over it.

Things like that don't make sense to me and I'm wondering if she HAD to take her break at that time or she'd lose it.

I remember when I worked retail one year for Christmas season, I was scheduled for a 15 minute break and we were slammed with customers. I stayed at my register and then went to take my break when we had a lull in customers. My boss wouldn't let me take it because I missed it! He said I should have closed my register, crowd or no crowd. :confused3

Makes absolutely no sense at all.

Yea I wonder that too. Also Im pretty sure there are laws that say they have to take breaks.... but if she was the only one there, who was watching the till? :confused3

if that was so she should have told everyone she was required to take a break

There are some laws where people are mandated to take breaks every 4 hours, no mattr what. this is precisely so that employers won't take advantage of employees and say, "Take your break later when we have no customers..." only there is never a lull and the employees never get breaks during their whole shifts. There are some jobs where not getting a break is a daily occurrence because of the nature of some jobs.

Some unions have a similar rule. Even if they are in the middle of completing important work, they have to take a break at a certain time.

I couldn't read that without punctuation.

i couldn't really either. i think she's upset that someone took a break while there was a crowd?

maybe she was even off the clock, and either waiting to clock in, or getting ready to go home. :confused3

No offence, but I think that workers are entitled to take their breaks. If an owner/manager choses not to have enough staff to cover the breaks, then so be it. Why should that lady have worked for hours cutting hair without a break? No one will die if they have to wait 30 extra minutes for their haircut.

As i said earlier if she would have told us she was taking a break it would have been diffrent but she just went with out a word.

its not her responsibility to tell you that she's taking a break. geez, i thought the entitlement at macys and the movies was astounding, but expecting a worker to NOT take a break, because you can't wait 10 minutes for a hair cut? wow.

OMG, they totally need to require an "ON BREAK" sign that employees should hang around their necks. Or maybe announce it over the PA system so that noone misses the fact that he/she is on break...

Wow, crabbing because someone was taking a break and didn't TELL you so? This just completely boggles my mind!

Yeah, I worked many Christmases at the local retail giants; what a rush! :scared1:

It was not 10 minuts it had been ten when i went to another store and WAY LONGER after i got back.

I don't feel that i'm entitled and i'm sure all the people there
with me didn't ether.

A lot of you just take every chance to ***** and go at someone. None of you would have the guts to say in real life.

i would still tell you that you're completely out of line in expecting to be notified every time someone goes on break.

She was probably required to take a break.

I've had many customers get mad at me, for their having to wait when I'm not working, and sometimes I'm not even on the clock.

Not EVERYTIME when you are the only one in a busy place yes if there where another person working i would not have expected it.

I find it hard to believe that there was only one person working in the whole salon.

There was we don't use this place often they do alot of things thats like ummm ok.

Like trying to give them selves a tip.
and when you show them what you want from a book and they don't get it.
They don't have a good rep its a last resort/minute thing when we use them.

I'm curious, did YOU ask the employee what she was doing and why was she taking a break when there was so many people?

You don't seem to have a problem coming here and tell US about it. Did you have the guts to tell her in real life? Or her manager, or the owner?
