I knew that it was important to get to the MK early on NYE, but I didn't think it would be at capacity before 4:00. I mean in this heat, who could survive all day and all night too? But, I was forming a back up plan just in case. IF we couldn't get in, I was first going to ask about the tiered re-opening; you know, for PAP's, AP's, resort guests, etc. If we had to wait a little, we could just hang out at the gate; do a few laps on the monorail, check out Ft. Wilderness...But, it never occurred to me that we wouldn't be able to even get into the parking lot.
We didn't very far on World Dr before we were re-routed to Epcot. The "MK Is Full" signs were already up....boy, they sure work fast.
(We found out later from a lovely British family, that the MK was full around 10AM.) So, we are now we are heading to Epcot. But have no fear, we will just take the monorail over to the TTC; it's not like they are gonna block the monorail.

Up Next: The Loud Children are allowed to use the word "stupid."
My initial reaction was "Of course not!" But. Now I'm kind of wondering. But have no fear, we will just take the monorail over to the TTC; it's not like they are gonna block the monorail.![]()
have you noticed. It's always the dad in these siutations! I can totally see my own dad doing something like that. The dad was telling the girl to jump, he said, come on, let's jump.
StupidStupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid Stupid.and the girl jumped.
See?I looked at my children and said, "now that is the definition of stupid."
Well, we park and board the tram. Might I add, that the tram is one of our favorite rides. We like to ask the driver if he/she will be stopping at the Minnie lot. Cracks me up every time!!! Anyhow, the tram is jam packed and one more family insists on getting on. The dad sits in the row behind us, and his daughters are in the row in front of us that faces backwards. The dad is loud, but happy, fairly young, I'm guessing 35. One of his daughters was around 14 and was sort of standing sort of sitting on the arm of the row. As we approached the drop off, we slowed for pedestrians, cars, another tram, etc. The dad was telling the girl to jump, he said, come on, let's jump. We slowed to just a roll, and he kept saying jump, jump. It was time to move, and as soon as the tram started we started around a curve, and the girl jumped. OMG! At first I thought she fell because the tram took off with a jerk and then when we were in the curve the driver hit the gas and we jerked again and next think I knew she was rolling on the concrete. She quickly stood up and was joined by her family and they were trying to scurry off to the gate, but they were quickly surrounded by security and CM's. I said that has got to be the dumbest thing I have even seen! I looked at my children and said, "now that is the definition of stupid." To the Loud Children, this was opening day of deer season. All three of them were running amuck uttering stupid, stupid, stupid. They weren't running because we were stuck in the masses leaving the tram, so they were hopping up and down....picture the seagulls in Nemo saying mine, mine, except it was stupid stupid stupid. Anyhow, this incident certainly incited a small riot as people were confused, the tram driver was shaken, the rear watcher was telling people to stay on the tram, security and CM's swarming, dad pleading his case, gawkers gawking, and three Loud Children saying stupid, stupid, stupid. It probably looked like this:

I wasn't sure if the family was going to be allowed into the park, but the dad finally convinced the CM's that she was ok and didn't need to go the ER. And the Loud Children's verbal free for all quickly came to an end.
I just knew that my plan to catch the monorail to the MK would work like a dream. I mean really, what were they going to do? Block the entrance to the monorail?
It's not like they have a big ol' gate or something?
Right?
I would get to ring in the New Year at the MK, wouldn't I?
Would I leave you hanging?
Yes, I would, but I won't.
We made our way to the monorail entrance to find it heavily guarded by gunmen and large iron gates. Just kidding. But, they did have a big ol' gate and it was being guarded by none other than the Dream Team. Wow, not exactly my dream encounter with the Dream Team.![]()
Since I am such a wise DISer, I had read about the closing and re-opening stages of the parks. So, we all approached the blue shirts and the encounter went like this:
Me: Do you know when the tiered (or whatever they call it) opening of the MK might happen?
Blue shirt people: Silence...sort of blank sort of "you know way too much" look.
Me: You know, for AP holders, blah blah blah.
Blue shirt male: Well, what kind of AP do you have?"
DH: (blurts with pride) "WE are Premium Annual Passholders."
Blue shirt female: Well, in that case, go on in.
And just like that, the gates parted. Wow, that was easy. Not exactly the dream I was hoping for, but I will certainly take it!
Actually, it was a dream of mine. Every year I watch the NYE stuff on tv and always imagine that someday I want to do something cool like that.
Stop it - they made the Dream Team guard the gate?!But, they did have a big ol' gate and it was being guarded by none other than the Dream Team. Wow, not exactly my dream encounter with the Dream Team.![]()
