We just got off the Disney Fantasy and the Cruise Entertainment Staff "Pub Night" Sketch (aka "If I Were Not Upon The Sea") was on the mobile app schedule and then disappeared from it on the last day of our cruise. It was also not on our Navigator for the final night.

We asked a few of the Entertainment staff that we ran into on the final night and they all confirmed that it wasn't happening (but that they had done it just the week before). We were also told that it's no longer being performed on *any* Disney Cruise Line ship (effective this week).

We were told that it had been dropped for a few reasons. If you've ever seen the sketch, you know that the humor is from a different era, not politically correct, and fairly adult. It also didn't originate on DCL and it is done on other cruise lines.

We were also told that something original and DCL-specific will hopefully be created in the near future.

We're going to miss this though--we loved it when we saw it on the Disney Wonder earlier this year.

Here's a version of the sketch for reference:

Oh too bad! I just saw it for the first time on the EBPC and it cracked me up! Skipper Steve as the undertaker was HILARIOUS!

It finally happened! We'd been whispering about it on board since the Cruise Staff got upset. It was just a matter of time before the guests who didn't approve of it became louder than the many fans :(.

What did the Cruise Staff get upset about? Any insight is appreciated.

We were told that some guests complained, but the guests who liked it demanded it and DCL kept bringing it back. However, the staff seemed 100% sure that it is now gone for good.

We were told that one common complaint was about seeing some of the staff in a different, bawdier light--much different from the more wholesome image they projected the rest of the week.

As you can imagine, Disney "Show" is most important, and you're right, Pub Sketch painted the carefully maintained cruise staff personas in a less-Disney light. It made too much of a conflict with that wholesome image they're supposed to keep up onstage.

I can't go into too much detail since it's outside of my department, but they've seen this coming for a while and many do love it (and wish it didn't have to be cut from the repertoire). When the idea was floated that the generally nameless mainstage performers could do it as an alternative, you can only imagine the reaction from the very protective Cruise Staff.

We can only hope for something even better, moving forward!

And I thought this was exactly why it made sense to have the pub night show on the last night of the cruise. Geesh. There are acts who have an "adults only" version of their show; will those eventually be banned and only the family-friendly versions allowed? :rolleyes2

Don't get me wrong, I don't like anything really crude, but we saw "If I Were Not Upon the Sea" many times and didn't think twice about it since it was shown later at night in the adults lounge. :confused3

That's too bad. My husband and I loved it. It was a great way to end the cruise. I laughed and just enjoyed it all. Sad to leave the next morning.

I'm thankful I got to see it many times. Just like the ESPN Zone, the dueling pianos and this skit (oh, I've seen Jennifer Hudson perform in Dreams (Lion King part) on the ship).

Who knows, maybe something great will replace it.

Please don't get rid of the newlywed type game..."Match Your Mate"! I love that too! :lovestruc

I just went to Match your Mate for the first time on our 5th cruise and it was hilarious! :rotfl: Can't wait to go again!
I was really hoping to see some adult entertainment in April and this would of definitely been on my list. I think DH has seen it in the past (while I was back in the room packing and taking care of the kids ) and he thought it was pretty funny and enjoyed seeing a different side of the CM's.

Oh bummer, though the 80's night theme night was fun on the 4 day, so maybe if they do a theme night like that on last night it won't be a bummer

I hope this is not true because this is my absolute favorite show.

It was not on the Oct 12 Wonder... We were told that when Natalie come on board as Cruise director, since she came from the Dream and they didn't do this on the dream, that she removed it from the plan going forward. Not sure how true that was, but that is what we were told.

Will miss it, but I assume that since it has been around for a while, they must be getting tired of performing it. Just home they come up with something new.

That's ridiculous, IMO, though it wasn't on the Fantasy on her MV or this past March. I guess they need to stop doing the adult scavenger hunt game as well, since that leads to undergarments being displayed in public. What part of adults only didn't they get?

Is this the one that contains the phrase:
If I were not upon the sea, a black jack dealer me! I'd be happy allll day long and this would be my song:
"Hit me here, hit me there, 21 or bust!"
<--- "bust" would be accompanied with an 'uplifting' gesture...

If so, I saw this on Royal Caribbean's finale show decades ago! It is 'cheeky' but not offensive enough for our parents to remove us from the room.

In any case, if enough of us complain about the yucky Villains Tonight beginning with ghostly dancers in the underworld, do you think they will FINALLY get rid of it too? We told the Entertainment staff that most of our group walked right out of it and they said they get a lot of complaints. I'm not complaining about the entire show. Watching Iago and Jafar sing Bette Midler is priceless, as is the Jerry Springer "Oh snap!" segment. But the show doesn't start out that way and its unnecessary and offensive to certain sensibilities. More so than 21 or Bust! (Or maybe that's just me...)

I will miss this show, I thought it was funny on our last Princess Cruise the show was so popular it was done on the final night in the main theater after the reg shows.

Not to start a war or anything I am wondering if they will get rid of the newlywed game show, that is very similar and I love it and it can get a bit naughtier than the finale sketch.

I'll bet it has more to do with the fact that this sketch is super old and has really gotten around all the cruise lines by now...

Ghostly dancers are offensive? We like this show a lot. I've missed anything offensive, I'd agree there's definite cheekiness. I'm trying to recall the ghostly dancers tweaking or something?!:scratchin

I think mermaid has a religious issue with it. Walked out of Princess and the Frog because of the devil stuff
