If I leave a stroller at SSR - would they put it to good use?

Because we're flying Air Tran (me, wife and 3 young kids) that still only allows one bag per person, and because we're already bringing down a double stroller, rather than bring an additional single stroller we're considering going to Target once we get there and picking up a cheap single umbrella stroller.

We wouldn't plan to bring it back however. If we left it a SSR where we're staying, would it go to good use? Or would they just trash it? Any other suggestions on where we could leave it when we leave?

I believe there is a stroller swap on one of the boards. Maybe the budget board. You could donate the stroller to a stroller swap.:cool1: You could try doing a search.

when will you be there? We are thinking of doing the same thing. We'll be at SSR 1/24-2/1/09

I am sending this over to our Family board since it is not a DVC specific topic. Thank you

 I have read that if you let the front desk know-they will pass it along to "Give Kids the World"--an organization that works with Make a Wish Foundation for children with life-threatening conditions (ie childhood cancer) who are traveling to WDW. We are doing the same with our grandaughters-4 and 2-we already have one umbrella stroller and just getting a back up for the older one. Hope this helps.

A few years ago I stayed at AKL with my 4 year old by myself. I didn't bring a stroller because I thought we'd manage OK. The first evening as I was carrying my dd into the lobby from the bus, one of the valets asked if I wanted to use a stroller that had been left behind :) it was great, and I got to use it for our entire time there, but I doubt its a service they regularly offer! I just thought of it as pixiedust:

When we visited in 06, I had my three grandchildren and had bought inexpensive strollers (like $10.00 each) to take to disney with the express idea that I would leave the strollers there when we left. When the bellman came to pick up our luggage the day we were to leave, I told him I was intentionally leaving the strollers behind. We started talking and he told me about his large family and many grandchildren so I asked if he could use them. He was so grateful, you'd think I'd given him a million dollars. Take the stroller - I'm sure you'll run into somebody who will appreciate it's use.

Last Dec. I left our stroller with the manager at BWV to pass on to another family. He was pleased to do it and said it was a nice thing to do. I would take the stroller and leave it with customer services who will pass it onto another family.

Strollers that get left get sent to Property Control and there they are sold, only CM's can shop at PC.

GKTW is a great organization. I've taken time from my trips to drop off batteries/small toys and crayons there too. They're very appreciative. And you can look around the place and see what it is they do there.

I agree with that - last time I was there there were a zillion strollers for sale. The umbrella strollers were 1.00 a piece I am thinking and the larger strollers were 4 and 5 dollars.

When American Airlines lost our gate-checked stroller for 2 days and the airline's loaner stroller wouldn't even push with my 30lb DS in it, AKL loaned us a stroller. They said that people leave them behind all the time (and I could tell why this stroller was left behind - a Graco on its last legs, but better than the airline's umbrella stroller) and they keep a couple around for situations such as ours.

We did just returned from SSR in August. We did the same thing bought a 14 dollar stroller at Wal-mart with no intention of bringing it home. We took it to the airport with us when we were leaving and looked for a family arriving with a small child. It took all of 10 minutes and the stroller was passed onto another family.

On some of our trips we have brought pool toys and noodles, not wanting to bring them home. We just passed them onto another family and told them to pass them on when they were leaving. They have always been happy and that was just for toys... a stroller is going to save a lot of money. Have you seen stroller rental prices lately? You would make some family's day for sure!!! Then just tell them to "pass it on"...

When we went down Sept '06, we had an umbrella stroller we didn't want to take back. AK was our last park and we were headed back to POP to catch ME. We went to the line where they were renting strollers out, and we asked the last family in line if they would like our stroller for the rest of their trip. They were so excited!! The mother hugged me and couldn't thank me enough. It felt so good to make her day!!

Actually, I believe you are supposed to contact GKTW and they will arrange for someone to pick up the stroller from your resort. WDW isn't really involved except for holding the stroller for them

If you have time on your last day, you might wait for a bus that is incoming, spot a family who appears to need but not have a stroller, and offer it to them, along with the hope that on their last day they'll do the same.

If you don't have the time, you could just keep your eye open as you leave the park and give it to the first family who seems that they could use it.

Hand-to-hand might be the best way to deal with it!
