This was a Universal Orlando commercial on TV tonight. I said to my wife,
"that just isn't right". For Disney crazy people like us, it just made me dislike Universal a little bit...... Have a 10 year old girl standing there saying she is going to hurl just didn't do it for me..... no magic at all!

Just had to share....

Are you serious? This was a Universal Studios commercial you saw?

That one has been playing here for a long time. I dont care for it either.

Well the campaign is not working.

USO, IOA, and USH were the only 3 parks in the U.S. to lose attendance last year. Better fire those ad makers.
Word is, they had a terrible first quarter of this year as well.

They just don't get it. It isn't about making me tired of Disney in order to come to Universal. Nor am I going to give up any portion of my Disney trip to do it. Ok I'm tired of Disney Universal. I've been there 7 days and done everything I want to do. I'm maxed out on Disney. I'm also tired in general Universal. Now tell me why I should come spend a day or two and the resulting lodging costs at your place instead of going home, putting my feet up and dreaming about my next Disney trip. Those ads don't do that. That's not to mention they tell everyone Universal knows who their Daddy is.

Every time that commercial comes on, DD (who is NOT a Princess lover in the least- she's a Stitch girl all the way) tells me, "Mommy, that is just mean!". Universal is not making anyone in my house want to visit, even with all the freebies they are offering (kids stay, play, and eat free, and now free car rental). They just seem desperate.

Yes, they are desperate. I have seen that commercial too (can't stand it - who likes sarcastic kids?! :sad2: ). Rather than sell everyone on what they have to offer, they have to bash the competition since what they offer just has no magic! Sounds like they need a sprinkle of Pixie Dust... :tink:

Although I do love to go to IoA (and their Halloween Horror Night events) a commercial like that would not work for me... bad choice I think....

I always think, "Well, if you got in a line for a princess, what were you expecting?"

I know...that just shows you what kind of people work for Universal. That was a low thing to do, and I should hope that our friends and CMs at Disney would never stoop to that level. IMO, Universal will never be able to top Disney, regardless of how many insults they throw their way.

I can't stand that commercial also. Like another poster said they should focus on what they have to offer rather than knocking Disney.

I have never seen the commercial, but DW and I are true Disney Lovers, and would not waste part of our trip to visit Universal .

Yep, I've seen it too and agree - bad advertising. I didn't want to go to US or IOA before and that ad certainly didn't change my mind.

I like the fact that the little boy is all alone at a concert at night.

It's sad showing kids in a very bad light just to try to get a message across.

US/IOA has so much to offer different then Disney that they should be focusing on.

Lately that just seems the American way to .To beat someone or something down to make you look better or take the focus off of your own deficecies.SAD very sad.

I really dislike that commercial as well. Universal is all about bashing Disney. Just go to their website, they have a link where you can compare Universal to Disney. I have actually never been there, but my family (minus me) went there last year. They did not like it at all and said they will never go back. Nothing like Disney!

Here is the link if anyone is interested:

This is old news, but yes, it is a little annoying to Disney fanatics.

Somehow, I was not offended at all. I have had countless trips to WDW. My last vaca was to USO + SW. We had a lovely 6 day vaca (not in a USO resort). We all enjoyed it, and I think DH preffers USO to WDW. The sarcasm doesnt bother me. I actually think some of the ads are very cute. Like where Frankenstein is giving a lady a pool-side pedicure, and the mom is holding on tight to her kids on a ride. I didn't get turned off to USO by the ads, but my next vaca, my baby's first vaca, will be pure WDW. :thumbsup2

My kids' reaction to the commercial was "why do they hate disney?"

We had planned on taking the kids to universal as well as disney on this summer's trip, but the kids wanted no part of it. Seaworld-yes, US-no. I was very surprised, but it saved me $200 :)

Yeah, I've seen that commercial quite a few times. I thought Universal hit rock bottom with the whole "Fairy tales and pixie dust not your thing?" - Then I saw this one.

It just makes Universal look bad. You don't see Disney bothering with silly smear campaigns. Then again, they don't have to.
