If I ever do a Dining Review/Trip report and use an apostrophe s where one is not needed or doesn't belong, please beat me with a wet noodle.

For example:
The place is called 'Ohana; NOT O'hana or Ohana's or O'Hana's. There is no Kona's at the Poly. There is no Boma's at the AKL. There is no Jiko's either. There are not WalMart's, Kroger's, or Food Lion's anywhere. Yes there is Tony's Town Square, and yes there are McDonald's. There's even a Chef Mickey's and Trail's End.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest, thanks for letting me vent.

As a third grade teacher, I am so proud of you! Thank you for saying something. I agree with you! Maybe some of the offenders will get a clue?

Thanks, I'm sure my 3rd grade teacher Sister Margaret would be proud too.....well, maybe LOL (regarding grammar anyway :lmao:).

I didn't post that to be mean or hateful, just really had to get it out. Everyone has their (not there or they're) own pet peeve(s), this is mine. Call me the punctuation police if you must.

And funny enough the Hawaiian term Ohana does not have an apostrophe, although Disney uses one in the restaurant name.

I am sorry! I didn't mean to give the impression that I thought you were mean or hateful! I am so sorry. I understand where you are coming. I am the grammar police, comes with grading writing all year... there, their, hear, here are my biggies.

I am sure that Sister Margaret would be proud of you!!! I would be proud of how any of my little ones turn out!

I admit I am the worst at grammer, but one new one has me on edge!

"We are staying at the Bay Lake Towers when they open"

Huh? :confused3

I only see ONE tower!

Do, due, dew. You, ewe. Chose vs choose. Lose vs loose. (Those two really drive me bonkers). Where vs were/we're. To, too, two. I think we all do it from time to time, but some people choose the incorrect word consistently.

Irregardless is another one that makes me mentally shudder. I was at a seminar and a very well informed man was speaking. Excellent engaging speaker, then he said, "irregardless." I was astonished.

One of my favorite English professors at uni said that anyone who understood English grammar (and spelling) was schizophrenic. :rotfl: Lead me to the seroquel. ;)

Great, that's settled.
Now we can move on to world peace.

I'm with you on all of the above. Add to that list people who use "then" when they should use "than". As in "He was taller then me". :headache: I see this one all over the interwebs and it drives me crazy!

You people need more fiber in your diets!

Sure.

I'm also a horrible speller -
But paradoxically have a fairly good vocabulary.

I just think a a "community board" we should try to be tolerant
of people on all levels of the spectrum.

Just because they can't spell it, or punctuate it properly does not mean
they don't have something valid to add.

And sorry :sad2: - it just seems petty.

There is validity in that viewpoint, certainly.

But none of us seems to be judging the content of a person's posts on their grammar. We're just expressing that we've got some grammar pet peeves that are a bit irksome. We're not pointing out any individual or their posts and making fun of them for it, it's just a general "here's my peeve" thing.

And while I agree that punctuation and grammar don't add to the ability of the contributor to make a good point, I would argue that they DO make a person more credible in a discussion. If for no other reason than the post can be easily understood and you don't have to take time to "translate" it to get their meaning.

That doesn't mean we're going to ostracize people for spelling mistakes or incorrect word usage.
