I am interested in going in Feb. for Presidents weekend/week. My problem is that I am not sure when my school vacation will be next year. Previously, we always had the whole week off. This year we just had the Fri-Mon. I want to book now, before the 7 month window opens but I probably won't know our calendar until June. Is there such a thing as booking every single day separately, so I can just cancel the ones that I don't need as soon as the calendar comes out? We will either go Thurs night till Mon, or Sat to Sat, so I guess I would want to book Thurs till the following Sat. If I had to cancel the whole reservation, I might not get BWV at all. (I hope I get it now)

Also, if I did book the entire nine nights and then canceled, will I be able to bank those points? (June use year)

I just checked, and I think I'm already into borrowing (we're going in May, Oct & Dec - we got that 15 month AP expiring 2/03), so if I did this scenario with borrowed points and canceled some, I would have to use them by May 03, is that correct? Could I use them at the Plaza or would it have to be DVC?

I rambled. I hope you understood the question.

If you have enough points to reserve the entire time and then cancel the days you won't need in June, you'll easily be able to bank all of the cancelled points- as they would all be returned to the current use year. There is no penalty for cancelling 7 months ahead and you'll just be into your use year- so banking is easy.

Enjoy!

auntsue,
why don't you call the school and get next years calander. Most schools have those made out by now.I have always called our school with those question. Most colleges also have those made out also.

Yes you can book days separately and then cancel some. And that is the way to go if you think you will need to cancel some because if you book all under one ressie they may require you to cancel whole thing and then stand in line to rebook. If you book days separately, don't have them link the ressies yet. Wait until you know which days you are actually going.

If you must cancel and are using points issued June 2002, you will have until November 30, 2002 to bank them all; therefore you will need to cancel by then to bank all the points. If you only need to bank 50% or less if you cancel some days you will have until the end of Feb 2003 to bank those. Note you must cancel 31 or more days before arrival to avoid the points going into "holding account" status -- where all points will have to be used by end of use year and you can reserve no more than 60 days out.

If you borrow points for that Feb 2003 trip (which means borrowing points from the June 2003 allotment, those points cannot be put back into 2003. Thus, if you have those after cancelling you will need to use them by end of may 2003.

It's very easy for Member Services to modify a reservation and remove days from the beginning, end or both. Removing days in the middle are more difficult.

If you're just removing days from the beginning or the end, I see no reason to book each day seperately.

auntsue,

If you cancel borrowed points, yes, you will have to use them by 5/31/03.

You will be able to use those points at the Plaza. But keep in mind that DVC has some additional rules for using "reservation" points for the Disney and Conceirge Collections.

Someone correct me 'cause my memory is a bit fuzzy - but if your use year is June, outside of the DVC resorts, you'll need to book (and maybe travel?) at least 30 days (or is it 60 days?) before the end of your use year.

So, plan ahead and call MS to find out your options - no last minute trips allowed outside the DVC resorts just to use up points expiring within the next week or two, etc.
