Again if I do not get my 9/2 trip I will live and it will be nothing compared to what FL residents are/and will go through...but if I am able to go because Frances has missed WDW do I have to worry about Ivan? Thanks in advance for your help.

It's waaaaaaay to early to even make an educated guess on Ivan.

It's hurricane season. Every storm is a potential problem, but the majority of storms also don't affect Central Florida, regardless of what the past few weeks has shown!

:earsboy:

Right now Ivan is tracking much further south. It's still too far out to say for certain, but it appears to be headed for Puerto Rico, possibly the countries at the top of South America. At this point it does not look like it will come near Florida.

The best guess so far, is that Ivan will go South of Florida and enter the Gulf. Then it could swerve North and hit Corpus. If it stays to the present track, it is more likely it will affect Mexico and miss the USA altogether.

Saftey Mom,

Is that because they dont want to have people even more frightened or because they do not want to mis-calculate it?

Because they figure we have enough to deal with now. Forecasters are busy giving the latest info for Frances.

I've been wondering about Ivan too. We're supposed to leave 9/8-9/11 for a quickie. As Leigh said, I'll live if we don't go, but I'm an obsessive planner  and not knowing drives me nuts.

Just an eduacated guess...but it looks like it is going west into the gulf and this one will miss Florida....

Hang in there all you Fla residents and visitors, we are praying for you and thinking of you right now....

Too soon to tell.

Frances have yet to pass Florida. Don't think too much about Ivan, at least not just yet. Ivan might even dissapear before it hits Florida. Let's just wait for Frances to pass.

It's also waaaaay too early to tell where it's going to go. We all know how unpredictable these storms are. The five day prediction from the NHC has it just east of Cuba and it looks like making a northerly turn...but that is just a prediction.

It is poised to hit us in Barbados on Tuesday morning. I wasn't too worried about it yesterday, but I notice today it has strengthened rapidly and has not veered off its course to slam us, so we will be preparing for a direct hit.

Not worried about our house - it is a very strong cement brick house with plenty of steel in the walls - just worried about the state of the island in general after it is gone. We have not had a direct hit from a hurricane since 1955, and I wonder if the disaster response teams will really know what to do, and whether the power crews can get power back up and running. We have a water tank so we don't have to rely on the water mains for a few days, and we bought a generator yesterday, so we'll probably be OK. Just a major inconvenience is the likely outcome.

I am REALLY hoping it does not hit Florida - they've had enough to deal with this year! They need a break!

I hope it doesn't hit either, maybe it will veer south....

I HATE hurricane season!!!!

I hope it just goes out to sea.

I'm supposed to go down to WDW 9/13 for 3 days and I'm concerned that Ivan will hit Florida again or here in Richmond, VA. I'm especially concerned about Richmond because we just had massive flooding due to Gaston.

NOAA's projections (though preliminary) is showing Ivan gathering steam and moving significantly more rapidly than Charley and Frances did. Think of it this way, it was a Tropical Storm 24 hours ago!!

I did hear a CNN meteorologist say this morning that Ivan is "tracking early" toward the southern tip of Florida and possibly the Keys, as it is a more southerly Hurricane than Frances. I know this much, one more drop of rain is too much!!

I hope we're ok for October, but more importantly we hope that WDW, its staff and family come through all of this ok.

My friends down in the Homestead area said the forecasters there were not happy with how things were looking as of yesterday. She said theyre leaving their storm shutters up until Ivan does its thing. Hopefully they are wrong as FL has had enough for awhile. Youre right, its still too early to predict, but looking at that link above, as of now its not looking good for south FL. Hang in there guys! I do want to add that on our way to Hilton Head this weekend on I-95, we noticed at least a dozen tree service trucks from NY obviously heading to FL to help out. Its nice to see others going out of their way to help out. Im hoping they were doing it just for $$$ though!
