If FP's didn't exist, what would you stand in line for?

When I went to WDW in 1995 at 12 years old, there was no such thing as Fastpass. And we went over the July 4th holiday because that is when we could all go together. We had to wait in line for everything. I don't remember how long I waited in line with my dad for Space Mountain, but I had seen something about it on TV and I really wanted to ride. I know that we entered the line well outside of the building, so it was probably a pretty long time. To be honest...I'd probably still wait a long time for Space Mountain, if I had to. It's one of my favorites.

I think that my maximum wait would be 30 minutes and I would do that only for a handful of favorites. Those include Star Tours, Spaceship Earth, Haunted Mansion, BTMR and the Safari. DS would want to wait for Test Track and Space Mountain. And Buzz.

I wouldn't wait for rides I've done enough or things that are only OK for very long though.

DW gets mad every time I make her wait 20 minutes for HM. :rolleyes1 It's a must ride for me on every trip but I agree, 30 minutes is about the most I am willing to commit to it.

To be honest, this ride is a big part of what lures me to MK. I can't skip it. If the wait time becomes really long, I don't know what I'll do.

Hmmmm. I think there are quite a few rides at Disney I would wait for. I prefer to wait under 30 minutes and I'm really good at having a plan so I probably wouldn't wait for too many rides for over that. But I think the following would be worth 30-45 minutes.
Space Mt.
Everest
Test Track
RnR
Tower of Terror
Enchanted Tales with Belle
Whichever princess my girls needed to see
Kilimanjaro Safari
Big Thunder
Splash Mt.
Toy Story Mania

We went to Disneyland a few years ago and stood in 20 minute lines a lot, a few longer for characters. We found our family actually enjoyed a few lines interspersed between racing around. We played games and talked. In the Indiana Jones line we got involved in a game that the entire line was playing. 100's of people. I think Disney World goers have lost the art of the vacation line. If it's in air conditioning and we all have our iPhones with Taboo, Disney trivia, social media, etc on it, we don't hate lines.

Oh, and I waited in a 30-45 min line for TSMM at DL. World of Color was going on and we watched the whole thing from the back that night. It was really pleasant.

I don't want to do a lot of those long waits in a row, but one a day is acceptable to me on a week long trip.

I would still do RD but if necessary, I would wait up to 20 minutes for some existing attractions. If new attractions were added, I might wait an hour for the first time I rode it. Otherwise, I would choose not to ride if I had to wait longer than the enjoyment of the queue allows. There is only so much you can read and take pics of in the queue. Short rides + long queues = me finding another alternative.

If I had to wait for anything, it would be Soarin'. I get goosebumps when I hear the score for that ride, even if I'm sitting at my computer. But I probably wouldn't wait more than 30 (or possibly 45) minutes.

See, I have only been once when there was FP's. All my other times going to WDW were pre-FP era. So, I guess, I'm not really married to FP like others are. There are many rides that I would ride on no matter what the wait was, because they were awesome and that was just the way it was. You waited in line just like everyone else.
But, with that said, I don't remember the lines ever being 2+ hours. An hour max. We went over spring break, and it was busy but not Christmas/New Years busy.

SO, I guess my game didn't quite go as well as I had hoped. Oh well, just killing time until I can board the plane on Friday.

Whoever responded with the Grand Mariner Slushie- I like your style by the way!

There are a few lines that just kill me....and I refuse to ride them without a FP now. Peter Pan, soarin, Space Mountain, and believe it or not maelstrom (if FP is active). Those are tortuous lines.

I don't mind waiting at toy story midway mania because I enjoy the theming in the room for some reason. I like waiting in line at expedition Everest because of the theming.

Some rides have shorter lines at some point of the day, so I would never wait in a long line when I know later the line will disappear. Spaceship Earth line shrinks as the sun sets. Dinosaur and kali river rapids and tough to be a bug are short waits after 5:00. Tower of terror usually has a short wait during Fantasmic!

Little Mermaid ride was completely empty during wishes on my last visit.

I like the pirates of the Caribbean queue, so I can tolerate a moderate wait. Jungle cruise not so much.

Have a good trip.

I wish I had a dollar for every duplicate picture I have taken of something at Disney for the last 15 years. I get home, all excited and I'm like....crap....that looks familiar. There tend to be more turkey legs in the backround now :lmao:

Then there is that one time you were in the right place at the right time, then you grab that point and shoot camera out of your pocket...

Splash mountain. I would wait up to 60 min for that ride.
I remember going( when there was no fast passes )to disneyland when I was little. We usually went around spring brake. It was crowded and we waited in lines. I love FP and I feel like I can do so much more in my day with them. Though even if all FP were gone, I would still go to disneyworld I just would plan my day knowing I am not going to get much In.

We will not stand in a line over 30 minutes ... for most rides no more than 20 mins in fact. If "recent changes" find us having to do so, this will be our last trip to WDW.

But since you asked, I will play your game :)

EE, Safari, River Rapids, SM, TM, Splsh M, Buzz, laugh floor, Soarin, TT, Star Tours, TSMM, RnR,

But really, any line over 20 - 30 mins, wouldn't even stand in line for those ....

Thank you, Shaden. Yes...from a Sony back in 2012. And not Photoshopped or edited in any way whatsoever. I literally freaked when I saw it. I almost believed in Magic again. :thumbsup2

Interesting reading this thread.

Disney World opened 1971.
No fast pass for the first 28 years.
Fast pass instituted in 1999.
Fast pass in all it's former glory for 14 years.

Master Po would be sad to see that the virtue of patience is lost in this day and age....lol.

If I could pay the 1998 price and deal with 1998 crowds, I might be ok with that :)

The increase in cost of Disney has far outpaced inflation and even much farther outpaced the growth in incomes...

Master Mad would "speculate" that the annual attendance at WDW has increased substantially in the last 20 years. 20 minutes isn't what it used to be.

I was 12 on our trip in 95 and we had to go over spring break. I remember waiting over an hour for splash with my dad. I remember waiting at least an hour for ToT. I thought they were worth it.

Now if it were just me and dh we would wait 30 mins for headliners. We would wait longer for certain characters. We wouldn't wait for haunted mansion or Peter Pan. If our daughter was with us I honestly don't know how long we could wait.

I haven't been to WDW in ages, but will wait for 30-45 minutes for Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, ToT or Indiana Jones at DL. I will also wait for Soarin' in the spirit of friendship, but I wouldn't if I were by myself. Anything else, I just stay away from or FP if the wait is over 30 minutes.

BUT, even though there are rides I will wait for, I won't wait for all of them on the same day. So, since I am usually a very laidback Disney guest and never have a clear FP plan, I usually get two FPs, wait for one, and just forget about the rest. I'd rather just walk around.

Nothing. :) We would wait no longer than 20-30 minutes. Anything longer than that, we wouldn't wait. We would rather miss out on the ride entirely. I'm not lining up 60 minutes + for a 2-3 minute ride.

Seems people don't remember that there was a time when there was no FP at all and we all survived it and waited in the lines. Maybe if they got rid of FP all together then all the people that won't wait will stay home and the lines will be shorter for the rest of us. Just a thought. :confused3

Yep. I remember waiting 2 hrs for Splash Mountain. You know what we said? Never again.

Thank goodness they invented FP, or I never would have gotten to go back.
