If FP+ does come back, how do you think they will go about reintroducing it?

Does anyone have any predictions about how they might roll out the return of FP+? Would they give onsite resort residents 30 or 60 days notice? Or would they just announce an upcoming start date for everyone with park tickets?

That's a good question and one we've been wondering about too. I don't think it's something they could reintroduce on the spot. People are going to need some advanced notice when they bring it back. You don't want some people falling through the cracks on this. We are going in August, and let's say they decide to bring it back August 1st. They'd have to announce it like right now in order for August people to get FP's. We speculated they could bring it back in October for the start of the 50th anniversary, or maybe January 1st 2022. It's a big system and it would take some advanced planning and notice. One way to maybe make it easier, is to bring back the paper FP again. We preferred those over the 60 day reservation that is FP+. I'd be shocked if they did that though :scared1: Again, a good question and I'd like to know others take on it popcorn::

Why? They could start the machines tomorrow. It’s how they used to do it and it worked just fine.

If it were all same-day, like the old paper FP or DL’s MaxPass? Sure. Except I don’t think the old ticket machines are what is there anymore.

But opening up 60 days worth of FP+ access at once? MDE would be down for days as hundreds of thoushouds of guests all try to book ~9,000,000 FP+ at once. They did so just that for ADR, but with significantly fewer guests scheduled.

But if they announce it far enough out they can keep a rolling distribution. I’m not saying they will, Disney has always been over-confident about MDE’s stability.

This thread would probably be more at home in the rumor section…since none of is know.

Wow, my guess is June 30 or July 1. They could do old-style "day of" for the summer and begin reservations either 30 or 60 days out. Can't think of a reason they would have to have a 30 or 60 day booking window to use the system to start...

If free Fast Passes will still be a thing, I think they'll announce their availability far enough in advance so that the entire world doesn't try to log on at the same time and crash MDE.
My crazy guess would be one free advanced Fast Pass selection 45 days in advance for anyone staying on Disney property and 30 days for everyone else with an additional FP obtainable in the park after you used your first one.
Of course I think they'll have an option to purchase additional advanced FP's for money.

That's what I said. It would be okay if they went back to the machines because you wouldn't really need a heads up. It's only with FP+ where you have to plan in advance

Wait does this mean there is no FP at all at WDW right now?

I suspect they will either bring back FP+ as it was - all they need to do is turn it back on, or they will take this opportunity to revamp it again.
Personally, I would love to see some benefit for FP+ by staying on site. Maybe you get 3 and can book them at 60 days, those not staying on site can book at 30 days. This gives another benefit to paying more to stay onsite with Disney. Doubt it will happen.

I think they could announce it and have it available very shortly after for both day-of and advanced bookings

I would hope they would just bring it back for day of. They don't need the 60 day notice anymore for staffing since you have to have a reservation. It's also not fair for AP holders to not be able to book far out. For example we are out of state AP holders that are only allowed to hold 3 park reservations at a time. So we'd basically lose out on any good FP past 3 days,

I think they're going to bring it back. Or I at least really hope they do. Disney doesn't want people tied up in line for the big rides all day. They want you out buying souvenirs, popcorn, etc. Which doesn't happen as often if you're standing in 2 hr long lines one after another.

I do think they need to revamp it though with the tiering. Hollywood Studios was always crazy because almost all of the rides were in tier 1 and you could only book 1.

I bet once they decide to bring it back they'll offer it out in advance like they did previously which I want to say was 30 days before your visit. They'll probably announce it and then people more than 30 days out will be able to book like you could before.

I don’t think it is in Disney’s best interest to implement a brand new fastpass system right as things are “returning to normal”. Do they want a paid system? I’m sure Chapek does. And I’m sure it’s coming. Was this an opportunity (Covid) to be able to start fresh with a new system? Yes it WAS. But I think that opportunity came and went. Things are going back to normal too fast for big operation machines to keep up.

So if that logic is correct, which I think it is (based on nothing substantial mind you), then Disney will wait to implement a new “paid” fastpass system. And they will likely restore the previous system to its original format but will wait until AFTER the 50th anniversary is over to implement a new pid system. I just think there is way too much going on internally regarding the 50th PLUS reopening from covid closures for them to cram down our throats a paid system. They barely have the staff to handle the reopening and people think they have full tech staff behind the scenes working dilligently on some monster new paid system for the near future? Yea, right. That just doesn’t make sense to me.

And if that’s the case, all of what I said, and the original system does come back in the near future (which I think it will given all the kiosks slowly returning), then it’s just a matter of if they do it in Sept or in Mid July. I don’t think they will relaunch any system before July 4th even if they are ready. I think they will wait till after the 4th, so maybe end of July? The question becomes then, does it return all at once for everyone that is booked in July/Aug or do they force the 2 month wait period for everyone with the system opening up in Sept or Oct? I don’t think they’ll force a waiting period. I think once they announce it is returning, it will be a few days and then the floodgates will open. Why? Because that’s the route with least resistance at the moment, and still gives them time to eventually implement a paid system at a future date if they want to. Chapek may not understand the park experience as we all appreciate it, and he may be too much of a numbers guy for Disney, but he isn’t impractical. And I think that NOT bringing it back soon NOT in it’s original form, that that would be the impractical business decision to make. But then again, I’m not the one making those decisions and for good reason lol.

Just my two cents and this is based on just rumors, nothing more.

this is the most cogent theory i have seen yet. If i had to place bets it would be on this exactly.

They can bring it back tomorrow and I would be perfectly fine with it. I don't need any notice. I'm going soon and want it really badly. I have no problems getting fast passes day of in parks so just give the options as soon as you bring it back.

And whoever wrote they will probably wait till after the 4th, I personally think that is a complete slap in the face to the people going on that major holiday, when Disney KNOWS it's going to be massively crowded. They should be doing things to make our trips easier, not harder. That kind of move would make me wanna cancel the trip cause of that slap in the face for the thousands being spent there. If they WAITED a week or two after that, if actually ready, that would alienate me and many other people

It's often the extra stuff that people buy that makes them the money....
