If Disney is so bad, why go?

Or it could be the nature of people who only want sunshiney reports.

So, this is a site where people review and talk about their experiences. Some times their experiences are bad or don't live up to their expectations. why should they lie because you guys only want to hear gumdrops and roses?

For example, I think disney food has severly decreased in quality. If some one ask me to review a restuarant I do try and explain why I come to that conclusion but according to you guys I shouldn't voice my opinion because it's a complaint? :confused3

Now when some thing new comes out people only can speculate on how it will effect some place they love. Personally I love that aspect, imo the more information from different points of view you have the better you can plan.

Now for me, I still enjoy my vacations but I have cut way back on my disney dollars. I don't go for long trips anymore and rarely do I eat onsite except for a few signature meals. I go back because for me it's a cheap vacation since I have a dvc. Would I ever pay full price for what disney offers? No way. Also my expectations are very low with disney. I no longer expect the great standard they performed at during the early 90's.

This sums up a lot of how I feel about Disney and the DIS.

I only go back to Disney because DH loves it and I love him and it makes him happy. A vacation relaxing by a nice pool with a good book and some beverages makes me happy. We are able to do both with our DVC membership. If we didn't have a DVC, he would have a very hard sell to drag me down to Disney.

I agree that constant complaining about Disney gets old and that if a person really does believe that it has gone downhill so far, they simply shouldn't go.

However, most posters have been to Disney many more times than the average park-goer and therefore pay finer attention to detail than most. This translates into expectations about the way the parks should look and operate which is both a positive and negative thing as it allows both for feedback that is beneficial to Disney and for a sense of entitlement, even for those things that are beyond Disney's control.

I believe this is a place to discuss all things DIS, good and bad, but the same shopworn rants get taxing over time.

There seams to be a lot of negative talk lately. So many posts about how Disney ruins everything or does everything wrong or costs so much. If you are one of the people who endlessly complain, why even go?

Basically some people just want to complain. Now that doesn't mean sometimes Disney does something wrong, but many of them are minor things. When you think of the thousands on the Diz VS the few complaints made............they really do not mean much.:thumbsup2

AKK

I think it also depends on how it is interpreted by the reader. Just because someone criticizes something doesn't mean they "hate" Disney. They may just be looking for ways to improve something.

I used to be one of the shiny happy people on this board. However, after hearing all the complaints I've started opening my eyes more at to what people have been complaining about and some things are starting to click.

I don't let it bother me too much though, WDW is still awesome. I just hope it never gets to the point of me not wanting to go back because the money is not worth it anymore.

Folks this thread is about opinion and serves no purpose to trip planning.
Therefore moving to Community :thumbsup2

Somehow I never knew this community section was here. Its a cool spot, thanks for pointing me to it by moving this.

Now generally I'm not one to say my vacations are "ruined" but I will say when I think disney has dropped the ball.

For example, I think disney food has severly decreased in quality. Lots of folks see a correlation to the ddp but If some one ask me to review a restuarant I do try and explain why I come to that conclusion but according to you guys I shouldn't voice my opinion because it's a complaint? :confused3
If a newbie ask if some place is "worth" the money, I give them my honest opinion. like I said I do try and explain how I came to that conclusion.

Now when some thing new comes out, people only can speculate on how it will effect some place they love. Personally I love that aspect of the dis, imo the more information from different points of view you have the better you can plan. No one knows how Xpass will effect their vacations, the unknown is always a little bit scary especially when it's a place you love and have great memories off.

Now for me, I still enjoy my vacations but I have cut way back on my disney spending dollars. Disney use to be our "go to" now it's more of a default place. Once we did the mouseworld every year some times 2X;s a year, now we are realizing there are tons of places that give great "value" for our vacation dollar.

My reply was not directed at anyone in particular... nor am I saying that if you are not happy with something you shouldn't express your dislike.

I am merely stating that unfortunately it is human nature for some people to complain.

For instance, I could give my child a big ice cream sundae with chocolate sauce, sprinkles and cherries, and he'd be happy as can be... but If I give my other kid the exact sundae and also put on marshmallows, then all of a sudden that happy child is now complaining they are being jipped. (obviously a fictitious example, but I see a lot of that here, and hence the reason for the question that started this thread).

Eliza, How many threads on the DIS have you read that have gone like this...

- Can somone tell me the number to Customer Service to Complain?
- What's your complaint?
- I'd rather not say. or - It's blah blah blah

Now those could be valid complaints, but no matter what the complaint is or was, the thread eventually gets shut down because there are WAY to many people on both sides of the argument.

I am in no way looking for gumdrops and roses... if you have a valid comment, make it. But we all know that here on the DIS complaints either valid or not so much run rampant.

100% right. I simply hate how if some one is looking to voice a complaint they are treated usually not very nicely. Sure complaints run rampant but that happens on tons of vacation forums. One of the reasons I love allears.net is because people rate and review and they don't get attack. You can give a rating of 1 and no one will come back and tell you "next time stay home". Same thing with tripadvisors, go to a review of a hotel you'll get wildly different reviews, yet no one feels the need to say the other is wrong.

You're example with the cones is excellent, vacations mean different things to different people, and we should remember that what is important to one family may seem like whining to another.

For example I remember one poster who was disappointed because she found out after she arrived that the monorail would not be running during EMH. for her that was important. Why then do we (as a forum) feel the need to tell her.
(and these were all said to her)
1) if you had followed the news you would have known about the monorail shutdown.
2) stop whining, you can get to the parks. you shouldnt let little things like that effect you.
3) you don't go to disney for the monorail :confused3

I couldn't for the life of me figure out what she said that warranted all the vitirol.

It just seems to me that worst than the whinners is the way we treat anyone who does not tow the "disney is the most magical place on earth" line.

Rarely do I post trip reports basically because I know if I dare remotely even mention some thing as inconsequetial as the state of the park bathrooms seems to be in declined, all heck will break loose and I will definitely be told "good, stay home less crowds when I'm there". I can bank good money on it. So basically I stick with very superficial description and then say if some one wants more details to pm me.

I guess I just wish a person could ask for a customer service address and a response be a simple:
"sorry you didn't enjoy your stay, hope the next one goes better".

So we do agree... ;)

I for one LOVE Disney! Haven't had a single problem with it! Of course things go wrong but honestly, if you're at Disney world you don't have much to complain about. Stay optimistic!(: you know what they say, it takes more energy to frown than to smile!

Agree.

I feel that this site has a wealth of information about Disney. The Disney complainers and defenders, both have something in common, as do we all here, we LOVE Disney. When people are passionate about something, emotions run high and discussions get heated but I love that others care as much as I do. Some choose to see Disney as it is, warts and all and others choose to overlook the warts and concentrate just on the Magic. Everyone is entitled their opinions and I learn something new here almost every day.
