If you wanted to add on at a sold out resort through Dinsey, I know that you have to wait until something becomes available, but...

If you wanted 50 points, do you have to wait for a 50 point contract to be ROFR? With your particular UY?

or

Once Disney ROFR some points can the be sold in anyway Disney wants?

Disney can break up all the contracts they ROFR anyway they like :thumbsup2

PP has it right. It becomes more about availability of the UY you need, and how many folks might be waiting on the wait list ahead of you. When I boughjt BCV from DVC a few years ago - my guide told me that my chances were highest right at the beginning of the UY.

Good luck!

Why not just buy resale? It's cheaper and ther are more choices than waiting for Disney.

OP, I think what you may be asking is if Disney ROFR's a BWV contract with September UY and you are waitlisted for a BWV add-on with UY of February will they change that ROFR'd September UY to February UY ? iirc, typically it isn't done because when a resort was first sold points were allocated in specific amounts to each UY. I really don't know but I'd guess it could be possible that Disney may have a way to do it.

Also, you may not be waitlisted at all for an add-on at an earlier resort, the points could be readily available.

:)

I don't think they can/will do that. I just called for BCV and my UY I would be about 9 on the waitlist. They did have some pts in a couple other UY if wanted 2 UY. So I assume if they could/would it would have been offered?

I've done all my 21 add-ons direct from DVC and not via resale. I've only had to wait for points once. All the other times, the points were in my account that same day. This includes the older resorts like BWV, VWL and BCV.

You may pay more buying direct from DVC, but it's worth it to me for the speed and convenience of buying. No worries; No ROFR; No waiting for owners to sign their paperwork; No closing costs.

Maybe when you added on there wasn't much of a price difference between DVC and resale, but now there is a huge difference, which make the small convienence of buying through DVC not worth it. Also closing costs are small and can be negotiated when making an offer.

Hey, first time here...wondering if any experienced DVC members could share info. We're looking into purchasing 160 or 120 points at $96 or $98 per point at BLT. Possibly planning on trading for full week through RCI at different locations moreso than using at Disney resorts. Is this something that is available/flexible/convenient...seems most of the posts I see here stay at the Disney resorts only?? Seems to us the Disney resorts weekend points only gets us 4 night or so per year during certain times! That doesn't seem to warrant the price.

While trading in to RCI is a benefit of DVC, most will tell you that the best value for your points is to use them for DVC stays. If your plan is to stay elsewhere, the advice I see most often (fairly new member) is that there are other timeshare programs out there that will be better for that situation.

DVC becomes a great value if you plan to visit WDW every year or two. Of course, you can always look for a small contract via resale that would allow you, with banking and borrowing, go every 3 years. Buying a 75 point contract would allow you to have up to 225 points to use at one time.

Good luck!!!

Don't buy DVC to use as a trader. You'll be trading a Mercedes for the equivalent of a Chevy a good part of the time. Buy DVC to use mainly for DVC resorts. Spend some time over at tugbbs.com. The Tug (timeshare users group) board discusses all the major timeshare brands and how they work just like the Dis board discusses Disney. Study and read that board before you buy anything. DVC or other high end, high maintenance fee resorts should not be bought to trade on a regular basis, as there are better ways to accomplish that.
