If anyone is still awake, let's talk about beds for a minute..

Right now I have a 3/4 bed.. Wooden headboard and footboard.. The bed is killing me! I wake up every day with a backache.. I bought one of those "egg crate" things (had to go with a full-size that is a little too big, but I've managed) and for awhile it was good, but no more..

When we move my options are: take the bed and maybe buy a feather bed to put on top of the mattress (again, I'll have to go with the full-size and deal with it); buy a whole new twin size bed and mattress (which would give me more room in my bedroom - but I don't think I'd be all that comfortable in it without more sleeping area); or buy a full-size bed, mattress, and the feather bed to go on top of that..

While I was out today I looked at some beds, but I can't find what I'm looking for.. If I have to buy a new full-size bed, I just want an inexpensive brass or metal headboard and footboard and I'll be darned if I can find one..

If I keep the 3/4 bed, I want to paint it white (it's like a maple finish right now that's kind of shiny) but I'm not sure if the paint would adhere to it or not..

Any suggestions?

(**And in case you're wondering, my DH has to sleep in a recliner because of his lung problems, so his needs don't factor into the type or size of bed that I end up with..)

I don't know anything about beds, but I'll be interested in reading since I've been needing one for a loooooooooooong time.

Can you get by with just a headboard maybe?

If not, I have an un-used, still-wrapped, full-size, brass head & foot board. I thought we might use them for DD but, our rooms are too small. :( Delivery is YOUR problem tho. ;)

Is there a store like a Matress Wharehouse or anything near you? They have some really pretty brass or wraught iron beds for pretty reasonable prices. Or you might try Value City Furniture or even maybe one of the Big Lots stores near you has a furniture section.

You may want to try estate/garage/yard sales for a good price on a bed. Then you'd just need to buy a new matress.

Going with a featherbed is a really great idea too...I miss my featherbed so much...it was very comfortable.

If you do decide to paint what you already have, it should be fairly easy. You'll need to scratch the surface with sandpaper and use some primer, and the paint should stick.

Sweet dreams!

We have a feather bed topper and love it. But tonight at Sam's club we saw/tested one of those "sleep foam" toppers, and it was much more comfortable for DH than the feathers. It was not that expensive either, in the 150-200 range, so comparable to good feathers. It is not tempurpedic (we have those pillows and love em) but was very comfortable.

Good luck whatever you decide to do!

You should go with a new full mattress. Sometimes you just can't squeeze any more life out of the old one! I think that a full is way more versatile than a twin, too.

If you want to buy a new bed, check overstock.com. They have full beds ranging from $169 for a headboard and frame to the mid $200's for headboard, footboard and frame (of course they also go up from there, but you wanted something inexpensive). Also shipping is practically free, can vary from nothing to $1 to $2.95 depending on what promo they are running. Here's a link to their selection of full beds:
