If all theme parks left Florida, what buisness would the state rely on next to fill the money loss?

I think they could build up bio-tech industries, where they could work on engineering corals that thrive in 100+ degree sea water. They could become global leaders in advising for reef restoration projects.

Lots of folks travel to Florida for cruises. DCL isn't the only cruise line sailing from Florida! The cruise ship industry is huge. From a couple of quick Google searches:

"How much money does the cruise industry bring to Florida?

The cruise industry accounts for $8.5 billion in annual revenue to Florida, as well as 154,646 direct, indirect, and induced local jobs, statistics from the Cruise Lines International Association show."

"What is the cruise capital of Florida?

PortMiami

PortMiami is also known worldwide as the Cruise Capital of the World, welcoming more cruise passengers to its terminals than any other port in the world."

We live in the panhandle of Florida and would not miss a beat, tourist have been swarming here for years. We have some of the best US beaches here by us. Truthfully, I wish we were less touristy:) Heck just a reason to leave the northern states is enough.

Another good one in the tech area would be researching technologies to make desalinization plants more efficient and less costly, since they are going to need to build some soon anyway due to the salt water intrusion into the aquifers.

The question was "what if ALL theme parks left Florida"
well what fun would that be,

it would also be completely realistic.

the first thing that would happen would be that someone else would come to town and pick up a proven business model …..

Cargo activity to/from Florida would still be huge.

"The total economic value of the marine cargo and vessel activity at Florida seaports, including the revenue and value added at each stage of moving an export to the ports or an import from the marine terminals, is estimated at nearly $117.6 billion, or 13.3% of the Gross Domestic Product of the state of Florida."

I quite agree. Disney already has extensive solar farms and these could be extended to cover the former park areas. I imagine Florida could not only produce enough power for it's own needs, but be able supply excess power into the grid as well.
Perhaps they could, but I suspect they would be more like Texas which is trying to kill renewable energy projects.

How has the water been lately, with the rising temperatures? Any dead fish schools wash up yet?
Probably not bookstores and libraries...
Just teeny tiny ones with one stack of "approved" books.

Assisted living and memory care places.?

Bingo. And pre-assisted living and memory care places for snowbirds.

these would'nt help with the domino effect of lost bsns/jobs to all the peripheral entities that thrive due to tourism (and benefit the state due to taxation and employment)-airlines, transportation, fuel, tolls, restaurants, hotels, linen/laundry, shopping (i've always wondered the percentage of tourism vs. resident spending at those outlet malls near the parks)...

there would be an uptick in need for staffing at these types of places but the majority of it would be of the nature wherein further education and certification is required (and allot of college students and retirees that rely on hospitality fed jobs are not able or willing to take that on).

i think that a whole lot of people who do not live within a resonable distance to florida if given the option of going to florida for what it offers absent the theme parks would opt to go elsewhere. living in the western portion of the u.s. i would opt for hawaii over florida for a beach vacation any day.

Agreed! The last time we went to a Florida beach was probably 10 years ago and it was for an event. Given a choice, we would prefer our charming New England beaches in the summer, and somewhere in the Caribbean for other seasons.

We have the space/ missile/ rocket industry. Boeing, Blue Origin, Spacex, NASA, Lockheed Martin, and Northup Grumman are all in central FLorida. We also have a lot of medical research and tech in the Lake Nona, UCF, and UF areas. Tampa has the air base. I believe there are other military bases in FL, too.

Water Temp is 85, which is only 1 degree above average. Water is crystal clear. Live webcam pic.
So far only Texas has had dead fish wash up on their beaches back in June.

Depends on where you’re looking at. Widely publicized reports of 100+ degree water were from a sensor in Manatee bay - different conditions from ocean temps.

But 1 degree above normal for ocean temps is a pretty big difference. Not enough to directly kill most marine life, but enough to shift their patterns, increase algae growth, and affect non-mobile life (coral bleaching).

Hope it doesn’t get worse, but it seems the signs are not positive.

Hawaii went thru the same deal, we are too dependent on tourism and need new industries. Their final answer was to raise hotel taxes. Tourists dollars are just too easy.
