If Adam and Eve were the first then....

OP, what exactly do you believe? If my six-year-old asked I would tell her I believe that the Bible is a book of stories that were written a long time ago when people were trying to understand the world around them. I would also tell her that the Adam and Eve story (creationism) exists in lots of cultures and that it has some good lessons for us all. I would tell her that some people believe it is completely true as it is written but that I am not one of them. If you believe it is the literal truth, tell your kid that you believe it to be true but let her/him know that others don't. I think kids should be armed with the knowledge that there are many differing opinions out there. That is tough for kids because they are constantly looking for absolutes.

I am a Christian -but not a literalist. I would say something along the lines of Jenny. I would also add that I don't sweat that kind of stuff. I don't know what the answers are and I don't try to make myself crazy trying to figure it out.

very well said!

I'm not sure I understand.

If you don't believe there were cavemen, how exactly do you explain the skeletal remains and archeological discoveries of cavemen and their homes?

oooh I loved Phil Hartman as the caveman lawyer -I had forgotten about that!
I wonder if there is some you tube video:)

How did all the different races that inhabit the Earth come from just two people? I've never heard anyone explain that one to me.

Same with Noah's Ark and how did he supposedly got all those dangerous animals and poisonous reptiles to coexist with each other on a tiny vessel? Where were the Dinosaurs in all of that? We have physical proof that they existed and dig up remains every year. How come no mention of them? Same with the cavemen and how they lived?

Sorry to get off topic a little bit, but it looked like a good time to ask the questions.

Absolutely..I saw the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer on Saturday Night Live..And then there was Encino Man.

:rotfl:

All this fun aside, I would imagine IF (and that is a big IF) there were two people that God created named Adam and Eve, they would have been Neanderthals.

OP--Tell your little one that Adam and Eve don't look anything like artists' renderings. They were probably very hairy and ape-like :thumbsup2

dd was just asking me the other day about adam and eve-her question was if they were the first/only people initialy on the earth does that mean they had at least one son and one daughter that then 'um, ew, ick- had a baby TOGETHER?', and those babies grew up and kept having babies with their brothers and sisters....

I don't buy any of it. However, I think that my son should have faith since he is attending Catholic school and it seems to make him happy. I want to teach him what he is being taught in school but, I don't know the background. I think that it is a good thing to have faith, I just don't have it.

Honstly I am shocked at how many people take Adam And Eve as a literal story.. I was shocked to find out my mother did..When I studied for conversion to Judaism part of the classes were taught By Orthodox Jews, Including Hasidic Jews and they did not believe that Adam and Eve was literal.

And why oh why didn't Noah wait for the unicorns before he took off in the ark:rotfl:

Well just to throw in some useless info Jewish Midrash states that Adam and Eves children married their sisters..Cain and Abel had twins, and there were more children...They just leave the females out of the geneology..In short Cain and Abel married their twins:eek:

Oddly enough this is one of those things that doesn't get much better no matter what you believe. If you back far enough somebody "knew" their brother or sister.

As for cavemen and Noah, IMO it's sad people claim they are 100% literal.

I am not at all religious, but I think you can have faith and still question a story like the creation story. Obviously kids know it doesn't make sense.
