If a cruise goes GTY does that generally mean it won't go FLR?

I've been eyeing a sailing I really wanted and have been hoping for a FLR. I checked today and saw that it has several GTY rates. PIF date just passed. Is it safe to assume that it won't go FLR?

I keep hoping but want to be realistic. And i want to stop obsessively checking. If it doesn't happen we'll just have to do a different sailing, probably in the summer.

GTY with a number/letter category (like 7A GTY) is a regular rate. It just means that a certain percentage of staterooms in that category have been sold. It is not a special offer rate. Those are IGT, OGT and VGT.

I believe FLR is only offered for specific categories, so having one or more categories sell out doesn’t necessarily negate the chances of an FLR. FLR rates aren’t offered on all, or even most, cruises. But it does seem to be offered before *GT offers, though it which (or both) will be offered is anyone’s guess.

Enjoy your cruise!

Also, FLR rates, when they happen, are applied retroactively to FL guests who have already booked their cruise and who match the conditions, mainly the cabin category.

That has been true...but i think someone reported recently that an FLR offer indicated “new bookings” or similar wording. I haven’t caught any other reports to know if DCL is now requiring cancel/rebook for FLR now. They did that a few years ago with MTO offers, which now must be a new booking.

You are right. It is right there in the conditions on the DCL FLR page. Maybe it was there all along and they did not follow the rule but you can’t assume it will not be followed in the future.
