Okay, so we know that we are flying delta. Our airport says that my then 15 year old son won't need id. However, it says to check with the individual websites. Has anyone flown Delta with a teenager? Do you know if Delta requires id for them?

I looked all over their website and can't find the answer anywhere. And of course the search feature brings back all kinds of weird stuff.

TIA....

No. Your son will not need ID. Travelers under the age of 18 flying domestically are not required to present IDs at the security checkpoint. The only time the airline would need ID is if you had booked him on some kind of age-restricted fare, in which case you would need to prove he qualified. A birth certificate generally would suffice in those cases, which are rare.

.

The airlines and airports don't set the id requirements, the TSA does. You can get this information at TSA.gov.

I know that all the airlines say no ID required for children under the age of 18. But I say better be safe than sorry. When we took a family trip in 08 with my then 16 year old I was soooo glad we had him bring his drivers permit. My son is very tall and has always looked older than he is. While going through security the officer looked at his ticket and looked him up and down and told him to wait and went and got a supervisor. The supervisor asked him his age, looked at his ticket and looked him up and down. At this point I said would you like to see his ID. They both said yes. We showed them and they remarked about how much older he looked. I was glad we had it and that there were no delays while we proved his age. If you have any ID I would reccomend taking it just to be sure.
