Ideas? What to do with 2005 & 2006 UGs?

As I placed the order for my 2007 Unofficial Guide just now, I felt a twinge of sadness for the old UGs. They have been so good to me.

It seems sad to just place them on the shelf to collect dust. Don't they deserve more from me after all they have given? Should I burn them like a retired flag?

I thought maybe my fellow Disers would have some creative ideas!

:thumbsup2 maybe you could give them to another family who has never been before? that would be nice.

You can also cut out the pictures to use in scrapbooks. Especially if you want to remember something but don't have a good photograph. Or want to describe a particular ride that you're not allowed to take pictures in. Just remember to back them with acid free paper before attaching to a scrapbook page!!!

Just yesterday, I put a $1.00 sticker on my 2005 UG book - it's going in my next yard sale (all profits go into our Disney fund). :)

We don't get to go to Disney that often so I buy an UG the years we go. The first one I bought was 2002. I was going to sell it in garage sale the following year but just couldn't do it :sad2: I know I'm weird.
Plus that was the first year we went as a family my kids were 2 and 5 at the time. Someday they'll be able to look back at all the changes from their 1st visit.

It's funny to look back and see the changes from one year to next. The 2006 UG edition was like reading it all over again. Wonder if 2007 will be much different from 2006. I just ordered mine and hopefully will get it soon. :wizard:

My 2006 guide is so mangled I think burning it would only put it out of it's misery. Let's just say I can take each park out of the book seperately. Yeah it's in like 9 pieces or so.

I can never bare to get rid of any of mine either. I still page through my 2004 guides and go over my past notes!

If in ok condition maybe donate to your local library. Our library has three copies - most recent being 2005 (1998, 2000 also).

I know just what you mean, I was just looking at my 2004, 2005 and 2006 Passporters and wondering what I should do with them since I'll be getting the 2007 edition soon.

In the end, I've decided to keep them because I have all kinds of notes written in them and some rememberances from those trips too...so it's kinda fun to flip through them and think of what's changed. I put my 2006 edition on my bookshelf and my 2004 and 2005 editions are stored with some other Disney stuff from past trips and old copies of Disney magazine. (Man, do I MISS Disney magazine! )

I second the vote to give it to your local public library. Most will either put it into the collection or put it in their booksale where another family can find it and the proceeds go to the library. Our local library's UG is very outdated, so a 2005 or 2006 would be an improvement.

i'm w/the library crew... that's what i am planning to do w/my '06 when my '07 arrives... it's thru our library that i first found the UOG... and that was back in '01 and it's still the only one they have!

I think old guide books make interesting memorabilia. With the UG, it's kinda like a snapshot in history. For example, my first adult trip was in February 2005 (postponed from Sept. '04). I had the 2004 UG. I had read about Alien Encounter and wanted to visit it badly, but I never could find it. It took me a while to figure out that Stitch had replaced it. Anyway, since the parks and resorts change so much in that way, it think it would be interesting to keep old UG's for that reason.

I still have my "Let's Go: Europe" guide books from my trips to Europe in the early 90's. I occassionally thumb through them and read notes and commentary. I'm glad I still have them.

I am looking at my 2005 UG now, and plan to donate it to my sister-in-law - who also has my 2004 Passporter! I don't buy either of those every year, but will probably buy the 2007 UG. I buy the Birnbaum's Guide every year and keep those. Of course, they take up a LOT less room then the UG!

I have the 1999, 2003 and 2005 (will be getting the 2007), and I have kept them on my bookshelf since I got them, along with all my other travel books (right next to the next mile book I love that thing!) Last night I was taking a look at the 2003 to see how much had changed and its really interesting remembering back to 2002 when they stopped the early morning magic hours and started the stupid character caravan thing. Of course it was nice to get Wilderness Lodge for $115 but thats another story :)

I keep them to remember what it was like back then. I also found a 1977 Disneyland planning guide which is really cool, as it still has info on the A, B, C, D, E ticket rides.
