Ideas to stay sane if we all lockdown again

I stocked up on puzzles last week. I enjoy the 1000 piece Ravensburger Disney puzzles because I love Disney and the 1000 piece White Mountain themed category puzzles (like drink mixes, snacks, 80’s, etc) because they are relatively easy. I’m not a fan of landscapes or challenging puzzles (like a field of sunflowers or something similar would be a hard no).

I always said I wasn’t a puzzle person, but they have a way of keeping your mind occupied and distracted from real world events. We had one going in the dining room pretty much continuously in March & April ... the whole family would just kind of pop in and out and work on them when we needed distracting.
I love the White Mountain puzzles that feature a product from days gone by-lunch boxes, coffees, board games...they are nice because while they are 1000 piece, you can take on little projects within the puzzle. I hate a puzzle that has a huge blue sky for half the puzzle. I don't want to work that hard.🤣

I do puzzles; I'm with @justafigment27 on the Ravensburger puzzles.

We did Diamond art painting a few christmases ago and enjoyed it but I think I couldn't do it again-yes mind-numbing.

We are all musicians in my family-dh and I are both music teachers. You'd be surprised how little we play music at home. I do love to fiddle and I think I'm going to get back into that this winter. Such an obvious option.

I've picked up diamond dot 'painting', lol. Easy, mind numbing, pick up a dot and stick it to a canvas, no thought really needed, time consuming busywork. but it's fun.

We play video games. I play WoW; Diablo (1,2,3....come on 4!!); Lego games; Animal Crossing; old games like Shining Force and Bubsy.... DH plays RDR2, Division 2. DS plays.....well, I don't want to know, lol.

DH is learning bass; DS is learning guitar. I play piano (well, once I get a new one or a keyboard, I'll be back to playing, lol)

Starting to cool down, we're hoping to get a couple quick camping trips in, in November; also, walks along the trail by our place, or other walks where we can.

Cooking/baking skills. Trying new recipes, perfecting the ones I've used.

My interior designer went with sherwin Williams shiitake on my oak kitchen cabinets. The walls in the kitchen are 50% shiitake, 50% white custom mixed paint. It is a nice, calming color. Combined with light granite and black stainless appliances, it is visually appealing.
I once did my dining room in Portabello. A very deep brown. I really loved it for a couple years.

I'm in upstate NY, so I'm miserable during a normal winter. It's why we normally vacation during January/February. If we go into lockdown mode again, it's going to be tough. If we go back into working remotely AND lockdown, it's going to get real rough real quick in my household. It would be a lot easier to handle if I could lockdown at a beach somewhere.

Usually I would do house projects, but I'm pretty sure I exhausted all my indoor project options during our last lockdown. And outdoor during the winter is a no-go.

I'm stocked up on puzzles, so we're good there. I agree with other posters, they are something simple and almost therapeutic to do. I usually do them while watching TV, just to have something to focus on and do with my hands.

I play World of Warcraft, so that's always something. Fingers crossed the new expansion will be out by lockdown time!

I'll walk my dog as much as possible. He loves winter & snow, so as long as we can trudge through our wooded trails, we will.

Read a lot.

Keep up my workout routine. I highly recommend Beachbody on Demand for home workout programs.

Get even more into true crime podcasts than I already am. So many rabbit holes to go down!

Online Disney pin trading. I got pretty sucked in when I took a voluntary furlough from work. If anyone is into pin trading, it's a fun option.

I'm a super casual WoW player, but maybe we need to look into a Disney guild!
True Crime podcasts: Have you listened to Sword and Scale? If not, it's great-tons of episodes to get you through the winter. Also Dr Death.

I was never locked down. I was locked out. This winter isn't going to be any different than any other winter. Wake up even earlier, shovel the driveway, grab a shower, go to work. Come home from work, shovel the driveway so I can get in, eat dinner, chill for an hour or 2, go to bed. No different than any other season either except replace for each season shovel, clean up branches, mow, clean up leaves.

Move to Florida so you don't need to shovel snow. ;)

I find shoveling to be very comforting, as long as the snow isn't too heavy. Also as long as I don't have to rush out to work. I do enjoy the process. It's a great workout. But then again, I also like poop-scooping the backyard 🤣

Have you thought about setting up a section of your basement with a grow light and maybe getting your DD into hydroponics? Or at least some interesting plants?
If I have to go into lockdown again I am going to use my basement and start to grow marijuana down there!! Seriously there is no way I am locking down again- I am done!! I have finally started going back to semi normal things here- last week friends and I took a pumpkin making crochet class, week before we finally got back into a bar to see a band - our "governor" says you can't be in a bar unless you buy a meal so a local concert hall is doing sit down tables and you get a meal, open bar and a band performing so that was realy good- can't wait to do that again! The place holds like 1500 people but they limit it to 150 so you are VERY spaced out there and you can't get up (other than to use the bathroom) but it was really fun. Next week my friends and I are going to a winery for a cooking class there. It is good to start getting back out in the world!

Honestly, you guys are probably the smart ones preparing for a possible lockdown. But I just refuse to even let my mind go there. If it means I'm caught unprepared, then so be it.

I'm hoping my work is a little more lenient about working from home now and they'll let me do that on snowy days. In the past they did not allow working from home at all, but Covid had most of us working from home for months and it went just fine.

I'm still pretty much practicing "safer at home". We have NEVER been in a lockdown. What China did was a lockdown. What we had was a walk in the park. Anyway, I need to find a hobby too. Every weekday is the same. Work, dinner, tv, bed. So exciting! Weekends we do go places like battlefields, fall leaves drives, hikes, and nd other things that are outdoors. That will end shortly though since it will get cold soon.

I’ve been taking precautions and I’m not about to go bar hopping or anything like that. But if it’s safe enough for me to go to work then it’s safe enough for me to leave the house for other reasons too.

I don't anticipate any changes since we've been pretty much locked down since the pandemic started. I'm going to the grocery store now about once a week, I've been to Costco once - like that. We walk every day in our neighborhood or a park or something. We take drives. I don't love it, but it's not intolerable.

I begged to work from home, but I couldn't figure out how to add the stuff to my equipment, fire it up, and package off material every hour from home :rotfl2:

No Thank You! LOL. I have passed out many times from my weekend activities (cycling) enough from overheating in the humidity up here let alone from the heat and humidity. All day at work in 115° is enough, I don't need that when I leave work as well, haha.

My driveway isn't very big, and now it's blacktopped, so it isn't too bad. I now see close to forecasted weather rather than looking outside and wonder how the 4 inches of snow comes almost to my knees, LOL. I just don't like having to do it to get out in the morning. I got my small light fixed so I'm not flooding everyone else's bedrooms with the flood light at 5 am at least. I leave that to the idiot at the top of the hill who's motion detector LED flood light lights up my bedroom like it's noontime with every car that goes by.
