Hi!I am a Girl Scout leader and we were hoping to come up with something to show our support.I remember in Desert Storm everyone was baking cookies. There were recipes that held up in the heat etc.Does anyone have any ideas? Is there an address to mail letters to soldiers?I think at this time with Americans protesting the war we need show our men and women we support them. Our troop just mailed off our homemade Valentines to the VA hospital"Valentines for Veterans".We make sure the girls in our troop appreciate what the Veterans have done for us.Sad this point doesn't get made enough in schools anymore.

So if you can think of any ideas I would love to hear them!!

I learned of a wonderful site and I went and got the name of a serviceman to pray for daily. Wanted to pass it along so you can get a name as well or submit a name for prayer. (or maybe write to them??)

the icon is in the corner.
Heard of a town who covered everyone of their servicemen in prayer in ww2 and not a one was killed. Incredible testimony to the power we all have over the troops and their families in this time of uncertainty.

I think a good thing would be to support the families who have been left behind. Even if there's not a base nearby, there may be reservists, other family members, etc. My dear friend at work has two children "over there", and I'm trying to be as supportive as possible, even if it just means a meal or a bunch of flowers.

Last semester, my Student Gov't adopted a marine troup overseas. We coordinated with the local recruiting office. They gave us a list of things to collect and we distributed the list to all the students, faculty, and staff on our campus. We asked for donations and had cards for everyone to sign. We also did a video greeting card to them so that they could "meet" many of the people who donated. Then we sent over four huge boxes to the troup to be distributed among the marines. We will be doing another collection this semester to send them more stuff.

What kinds of things did you send? I am the director of our Vacation Bible School this year and that could be our mission project. We are not really near a base so not too many families are involved directly, but I would like to do something to remind the kids of what our troops are doing for them.:)

Oh there was a bunch of different things on the list. Personal care items such as razors, shaving cream (both guy and gal stuff), toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo etc. Also snacks, specially individually wrapped (but try and stay away from things that will melt), games, current magazines, books, stationary, other things along those lines. The last thing was the personal notes or cards giving encouragement to the troops and letting them know we appreciate what they are doing in defense of our country.

Thank-you. All of those would work for our collection. I will try to call our local recuiting office.:)
