I have a door that has great sentimental value to me. It was my childhood bedroom door and my little brother stuck those vile "garbage pail kids" stickers all over it when we were little. My parents sold the house and 6 months later my brother died in a car accident. The new owner graciously gave me the door. Only about half of it is salvageable. My dad cut the warped, peeling end off. It really is an atrocious piece, but means the world to me. What can I have made from it? All I can think of is a table? Not creative at all. :confused3 Any ideas?

Could you maybe make is a little smaller and make it and wall hanging? Or if it has panels could you remove part and all photos? Could be really neat looking in a hallway or on a staircase?

if its warped you can have the wood seemed and then forced back into shape. I'd consider something unmounted so you can take it with you if you move. I'd contact a local woodworking shop and see if they have any ideas.

Hang it - as is- above a couch, bed or fireplace. Add framed pictures of family on either side. I wouldn't try to change it - atrocious can be beautiful.

LOL. It is such a beautiful piece to me. I may try to see if someone can frame it for me somehow.....And then hang a pic of us when we were kids with it....

What a beautiful/meaningful/emotional story - thanks for sharing!

In my opinion you would be best off thinking about other doors in your life - Who walked through that door that you remember?
What did that door shield you from growing up?
Were you an 'open door' kind of kid - or were you the type of kid that escaped from the world behind that door?
Who knocked on that door?
Did you ever slam the door?
Did you have a lock on your bedroom door?

Fast forward to to day....

What other 'doors' have you walked through in your life?
What experiences have served as 'doors' in your life?
Where are your doors today?
What doors have you knocked on?
What accomplishments came from stepping out of the 'door' of your comfort zone?

While you don't want to change the appearance of the door, you can always leave one side of the door unchanged, and completely customize the other side!

Have you heard that song "The House that Built Me"?

If you haven't - spend $1 and buy it on iTunes, and while its downloading - go grab a box of tissues. You'll need more than one - I know I did the first time I heard it!

When my parents sold our family home (I totally supported them in doing so -.... it has since been razed) I bought my Mom a ceramic vase with the saying "Home Is Where Your Mom Is" printed on it. When Mom passed away this past May, seeing that vase in her window sill in the kitchen brought back a flood of memories of why I bought it for her, and made me think about what 'home' really meant. That definition changes a lot as life progresses.

That door must have a lot of meaning to you, but don't be afraid to change what it means to you by making it not only a door from your past, but also a door to your future.

I could go on with a lot more metaphors, but I'll spare you - I become unhinged easily in regard to word/situational humor! HAHA :)

I would have it finished in a way to protect any markings/stickers, etc.....the parts that make it sentimental. Possibly by putting a layer of polyurothatne(sp?) or even spray painet clear finish.

Then find a neat space in your home to set it....even hung about a sideboard, or headboard, or in the family room or office. Even propped up against the wall.....anyway you do it, keep it in full view and it will not only warm your heart but will definitely be a converstion starter.

What a great treasure :)
