I am in need of craft ideas for a 6 year old's birthday. She loves Little Mermaid (but at this point I don't care what the crafts are.) There will be 25-30 kids (yes, I have lost my mind :) ) both boys and girls. Any ideas welcomed!!

Thanks in advance

Amy

For one of DD's birthday parties, we painted t-shirts. It was a huge hit. I only had about 6 kids, so I sprung for the plain white t-shirts and the paint, but if you have that many kids, I'd ask each child to bring their own shirt to paint. They sell fabric paint at any craft store.

It kept them busy for a decent length of time and nobody FOUGHT!;)

Saw this at a shop at the beach and will be taking my little ones and their cousins to do it when we're there this summer....

They do a fish print t-shirt. Each child gets a whole fish (real one...big enough to fit across the front of their shirt). They use fabric paint to paint the fish. Then, it's pressed onto the front of the shirt, leaving a realistic looking painted fish impression. They're very cool looking! Would fit nicely with an "Under the Sea" party :)

For expense sake, you could supply paint and the fish (they can be reused so you don't need 25-30 fish) and the kids can bring shirts. Make sure you have a few on hand anyway, just in case someone forgets. Or maybe find them wholesale somewhere or in bulk and provide it all...

How about buried treasure? It's easy, cheap and good for boys and girls.

Supplies needed:

- clean & dry empty plastic water/soda bottle w/ screw cap (1 for each child)

- sand (plain and/or colored - about 1 cup per child)

- glitter

- small trinkets (plastic jewels, shells, plastic animals etc)

- a few funnels

- glue

Have each child fill bottle 1/2 with sand then have them add glitter and trinkets. Add a little bit of glue to inside of bottle cap and screw onto bottle. Kids can roll bottles and find their buried treasure.

It's not exactly a craft...but just an idea that might be neat!

Have you heard of 'dirt?' It's chocolate pudding with crushed chocolate cookies and usually a gummy worm in it...why don't you try making 'sand' for your party? You just use vanilla pudding and crushed wafer cookies, and add a gummy fish or something like that? My sister made them last summer and they are very cute and easy to make!

We did an "Under the Sea" party sort of combining Little Mermaid (for the girls) and Pirates of the Caribbean for the boys.
We decorated the house with blue and green streamers
Had the kids paint not a T-Shirt but do a sea-themed painting
to take home (we had 15 kids)
Did a scavenger treasure hunt with a pirates' chest, coins &
trinkets, and a map (they loved this)
Cut out pieces of pizza with a fish cookie cutter
It was easy to find items for the goodie bags for this theme also,
particularly at the Disney Store

If you have time, Oriental Trading Co. has lots of crafts and reasonably priced.

25-30 kids?<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/13/13_10_2.gif' border=0></a> YOU ARE BRAVE!!!!!!!

You have to visit birthdaypartyideas.com, you can find tons of stuff there!! Good luck! :D

you could print out a coloring page of the little mermaid on the computer, cut them out, then let the kids put glittery stickers on the tail and color the hair or glue green and red sequins on her.
