Ideas for March Universal meets -- need feedback! (**updated info 1/11/01 -- please read!**)

See ya'll there Sat. & 1/2 Sun. Will be DW , 8 yr DD , possibly DM (my mommy) , and self. If things are slow , might hurry down Fri.
We do it much like Barry does , lots of little trips thru-out year. Even 1 day trips are common when I really wanna get out of week-end yard work! I can always count on DD's vote. "OK, mower won't start, who wants to go to Orlando?"
Unfortunately, we won't be on-site. But hey, somebody's gotta take pictures of you Mardi float riders, right?
Looking forward to meeting everyone then! Will be on lookout for band info meanwhile.

It's sounding better and better for me being able to make it. Got my AP renewed for two more years. I'm in as a "maybe" as of now:)

Hey everyone!

This is getting better all the time!

We had initially planned to go to SW on Sat the 10th to avoid the weekend crowds at IOA but, if the crowds at IOA include the "IN CROWD", we will rework the plan.

DH and myself plan on seeing the parade at least two nites. (one w/kids and one w/out kids and staying to see the bands). Well, I take that back, just need to see who the bands are AND mom and dads' state of mind as to wether the kids will see it on Sat. nite.

When do yall believe we start begging for float vouchers? Before or at the time of Check-In? I hope both of my kids will be tall enough.

Looking forward to meeting yall!

This is great!! What a group we have going :D
Valarie, read this link from bskmom...Patti

If we aren't staying on-site, we may be able to get on a float by doing the standby line. AP holders may be able to get vouchers too.

Ohhh yes Valarie I also wanted to say that we also want to get over to seaworld. Trying to figure out what day to do that as well. My husband wants to do Discovery Cove. Have you ever been?

jessica5.gif

We want to do SW too, isn't there a coaster there? (I know, Barry, I am just teasing)

We want to see the animals that we can't see here - Artic and manatees. Don't they have an exhibit?

But we have 5 nights at HRH and so can be flexible.

Aloha, gotta go to work. :)

Does anyone want a Sea World meet?

I was thinking...maybe we can do a meet like this:

March 9: Universal meet
March 10: Sea World meet
March 11: Universal meet
March 12: ?

I have a Sea World/Busch Gardens AP that gives me 15% off a one-day ticket.

There seems to be an interest in Sea World. So how about it?

Robin I dont know how but I missed your post about you probably not being able to make it in March. I am so sad. I was so looking forward to meeting you and Michael. I know too well that a mommy musy do what a mommy must do for her child. On the bright side...Moving to Orlando...WOW!!! How wonderful for you :D That is certainly something to look forward to! Once that happens we can plan a meet for sure! I look forward to that day :)

I was thinking of times and here's what I think we can do:

March 9
Universal day
Meet: 12 noon (place TBA)

March 10
Sea World day
Meet: 8:15 am, Hard Rock Hotel lobby (if you need a ride). Otherwise, meet 8:45 am at Sea World (place TBA)
For afternoon people: 12 noon, Anheiser-Busch Hospitality Center

March 11
Universal day
Meet: 8:30 am (place TBA), 12 noon (place TBA)

March 12
Universal day
Meet: 8:30 am (place TBA), 12 noon (place TBA)

I put in for vacation time from March 9 to March 12 and I am pretty sure it will be approved. :) Again, if enough people want to go to Sea World, I will take some people there. If not, we will make it a Universal day. I can get 15% off for up to six people.

Let me know. I will post the final information on the Magic Meetings page.

Well....we did Sea World in December and considering that we are only there Saturday and Sunday ....AND I just bought a two day pass/two park pass for the three of us - I think we will have to skip the Sea World part on Saturday.

Isn't Saturday the big night for a band? Wouldn't you all want to be at US/IOA?

Donna, Maria, Barry and everyone/anyone else who needs a good excuse for this trip - what day are we doing our "birthday celebration" at a "nicer restaurant"? (My birthday is in June but I REALLY need a good justification for this weekend!! So, please don't be shy about joining this celebration!) Do you want to do Saturday early evening or poss Sunday lunch (or dinner). Our flight leaves at 9:15PM on Sunday. Which restaurant? Emerils? Mama Della's? The Palm? or another of the new HRH restaurants?
:D

Lookie Lookie !
Sorry, just had to show off Scooby!

Linda,
Any time is workable for us. We definately want to see the band!

Aloha all!

Barry, since Linda is only there on Saturday and Sunday(and maybe H2OJAG too), should we do Sea World on Friday? What does everyone think? And...I have an Adventure Club card that allows $5 off the ticket for SeaWorld for up to 6 people. Not sure if mine or Barry's is more of a discount. :)

Linda, I am looking for all the excuses I can! LOL Not for the trip, but to keep me on my diet! I keep promising myself treats if I make it until I leave. I have absolutely no will power (and it shows). We will also be celebrating our wedding anniversay (which is in April). I think a nice dinner would be wonderful, but DH does not own a coat (aloha shirts is as dressed up as he will get) and so that may limit us in where we can go in Florida. But please do not let us keep you from somewhere you want to go. We did not go out to dinner last time, but would really enjoy it this time. What places are nice, not too formal and where a large happy group could have a wonderful time? :D

And Valarie, I love your Scooby! :)

Donna

Except for Delphinio's(sp?) which after reading recent reviews doesn't seem like it's where we would want to eat at anyway, I don't think any of the restaurants are formal! Emeril's has a "No tank tops" type of rule (I think I read that somewhere recently), but no one expects people to dress up while there!! Let's say if we chose Emeril's (which might be fun considering it's Mardi Gras time)I think a shirt (even a hawaiian one!) and poss long pants for your husband would do just fine! I guess we'll have to read the reviews re the HRH restaurants as they come along, but the HRH does not sound like a formal place at all. As deluxe as the Portofino is, we never dressed up there for any of our meals and never felt out of place.

Valarie!! I love your Scooby!! :D

I think I read recently that Friday and Saturday are band nights. Has anyone found out who will be playing yet?

We spent New Year's Eve at MGM studios. It never occured to me that there could be bands playing there that night so I never asked it beforehand. When we got there that morning we found out "Sister Hazel" was there as well as "Vertical Horizon"! It was great! Sister Hazel played from 8-9PM & 10=11PM at the Indiana Jones stage, and Vertical Horizon played from 9-10PM & 11-midnight in the back of the park near the Osborne Lights display. They also had another group playing dance music in the center of the park.

Pleasure Island had "Duran Duran" and "Foreigner".

How was Universal/IOA for New Years Eve? Did they have any bands playing?

My dates are still up in the air. I know I will be there friday just not sure if it will be early or late. I am planning on being there for the parade and concert that evening for sure though. I may however be there in the AM. Saturday and Sunday sounds good for IOA/Universal. I am thinking of doing Discovery Cove Monday. I have to figure out if I can do this and still fly home right after. I have to be home by monday eve. If we get there early friday I will join you at Sea World.

As for our birthday anniversary mardi gras celebrations, saturday is great should we do this after the concert? anyone know what time it ends? or should we try and do this before the parade/concert? If we leave the parks to have dinner first I would imagine we should shoot for a 5:30-6P ressie to have us back at the gate by 8P. BUT...if we wanna ride the floats we will have to have dinner after. I would imagine whatever way we decide it should be no problem to get a ressie but we have to consider we are a good size group. We better make a ressie or we wont be sitting together. As to where? City Walk would be fun and so would the HRH at one of the new places. If we go with Emeril's, Donna dont worry...all the restaurants are casual. Even though I have heard Emeril's asks men to wear jackets when we were there this was not the case. Slacks and a shirt were fine. So no matter where we eat your DH will be comfortable! :) Another note...when we ate at Mama Della's they had a large group in the back room so this is a nice option also. How many would we be for dinner? So that being said...I am easy! Whatever the group decides is great with me. I will eat anywhere at any time and do the parks in whatever order! :D
At least we have some time to figure out the dinner thing unless we do Emeril's a group our size will have to book that early. Barry care to add your 2...(well damn why do I not have a cents symbol on my key board)!!!! anyway 2 cents! :D
On the dinner idea's?

OH!! and Valarie...Love your Scooby! :D

I would love to try and do the floats if possible. We might be able to get tickets for that in advance, right? (for those of us staying on site.) We should prob plan on meeting at Citywalk or HRH for dinner to be closer to US. What if we all met around 5-ish? That makes it early enough to poss get seated quicker, and it leaves us plenty of time to get back to US and wait in line for float tickets (when do they start giving them out again to the stand-by line?).

I wonder if we can get extra float tickets from the HRH for those who are not staying on-site?

Friday or Monday for SW is fine by me...I am going to HRH on Thursday for 5 nights (Do I sound as if I am I bragging? Hope not,I am just so happy. :D) BTW what is Discovery Cove? Is that one of those swim with the dolphin things?

And as long as the clothes thing is not an issue, anywhere we eat is fine too. Love to eat and eating with a group of friends is the best. :)
