You're a creative imaginative bunch.....any ideas for long distance wooing someone? I'm looking for outside the box ideas.

Internet and e-mail have taken a lot of the romance out of long-distance dating. I suggest you supplement your e-mails and whatnot with the occasional hand-written message, as well as small gifts.

Almost all online retailers now offer gift wrap. Even if it's just something small like a DVD or similar, have it gift-wrapped for that little extra something. Also, get to know the florist in the home town of the person you are after :thumbsup2

Homemade cards.
Mixed CD's.
Books with a personalized note in the cover.
Phone dates (you can watch movies).
Do you write poetry?

Good luck :goodvibes

My DP and I live 3 hours away from each other (until July when I move back down to south florida). We send each other a card every week ( sometimes funny, sometimes romantic). Keeps it fun and exciting!

Send a DVD, have the same for yourself to watch and set up a 'date' where you both watch the movie at the same time, while talking on the phone (which should b preferred, but a cheaper alt may be on IM)

Instead of IM, try Skyppe.

OK. I'm one of those cliche romantic's at heart sort of people so here is my suggestion...

If you have access to a video camera (and no, I'm not even going down THAT road...:rotfl:) I would tape a short video of yourself just talking...something that you would say in a card or letter, but instead of doing it on paper, do it on a video. This way, the other person would be able to see and hear you anytime they miss you or want to hear your voice. Something sweet, just a thinking of you sort of thing. Maybe what you did that day, or whatever. Basically a video letter or diary of sorts. Do this maybe once a month and either mail it to them or send it via email or something. It's a little different and special.

Thanks for the ideas. Keep em coming.
I like the virtual movie date.

I've done the flowers (multiple times)
We play a version of 20 questions every day, one question to me was did I like my handwritting. I answered. Then broke out my stationary and proceeded to write a letter with my finest fountain pen, and let her decide if she liked my handwriting.
I've made a copy of my hand and sent it to her in a handwritten letter, saying my hand was always there to hold when she wanted or needed too.
I've sent one small gift she truly appreciated.
I'm designing a stained glass piece for her.
Gonna make some homemade peanut brittle and send that off in the next couple of days.

Keep the ideas coming. I want to woo and wow

post a video on youtube! i did that when me and DH lived apart. Just saying how much you miss them for the world to see.

Most of the good ones have been posted already. I will have to say that one thing that Gabby loved years ago was that I bought a Beanie Baby kind of critter and then gave it a good dose of my cologne. I put it in a zippy bag for about 3 days, then mailed it to her. She loved that she knew what my cologne smelled like before she even got to meet me in person.

Oh, and yes, 11 years later, there is still a faint smell of my cologne left on that duck. :)

I really like that one....I already havea small plush I was gonna send her...I will have to pick one cologne, I wear a few. Mind if I ask what you wear? Pretty good lasting power 11 years later.

I also wear several different ones, but at the time, I wore the Avon Musk for Men. They don't even make it anymore, but before they stopped making it, I bought 3 extra bottles, so I still have some. Gabby likes it on me. Although, a close second is Obsession Night for Men. :thumbsup2

Make her a tape of songs (yes I AM that old)---or whatever the new modern equivalent would be--burn a CD or email your song list.

Getting someone's mix tape was one of the best ways to learn about a person- I was nearly in love with my college roommates ex-boyfriend (whom I never met) just from listening to his tapes. He really did make the best tapes.

(Now I feel as old as dirt!)

You could also read a book together and discuss it, at certain points.

You could also take this idea to a restaurant that you might have in both towns. Set up a date and time to eat at [restaurant name] and when you get home talk about what you ordered, how the server was, etc. Make sure you get all spiffied up too!

Ahhhh my sweet friend, I disagree. Christy & I did our long distance ROMANCE for 9 months. We wrote the most amazing love letters & poems to eachother. It's really a great way to see how much you can learn about someone when you don't rush into moving in with them. ;) We weren't able to see eachother but every 9 or 12 weeks, so we had to rely on phone calls, care packages and those AMAZING love letters. I've saved everyone of them and put them in a book. We also did the card thing, flowers etc. But I have to say, it was the poetry that won me over. :cloud9: Four years later, we're planning our wedding.

That's how Kenny and I dated for months was over the internet. We would IM each other, e-mail, and chat. He was so sweet and romantic, I couldn't help but fall for him! Here we are 10 years later. :lovestruc

My husband and I lived in 2 different countries for the entire 18 months that we were engaged...we wrote LOTS of letters, and also...

I had a photo of him (close-up shot) that I took with me everywhere. I would take pictures of myself and his photo in strange and unusual (or totally mundane) places...in the elevator at work, sitting on the couch watching the news, eating my cheerios, wherever... I would then mail the photos to him (yes, I'm old...it was pre-internet days) with silly captions. It showed him I was thinking of him every day and let a bit of my silly side show through.

That's a cute idea! We have a Mr Bill doll here at work. We had to take pictures of all our conference rooms for our new scheduling software. We took Mr. Bill and put him somewhere in each room when we took the picture. Not quite the same thing but your story made me think of it.

How about you send a line of text - they then have to return it with another line and over the weeks a poem will emerge and it will be a joint effort
