Ideas for Graduation/Entering the Army Gift

One of my son's good friends (I've known him since kindergarten) is entering the army a week after graduation on June 2nd. I'd like to get him something, and since the DIS is such a wonderful source for .... everything ... I thought I'd come here and ask.

What about an American Express gift card? It could be used wherever he wants. It is also helpful for while at boot camp when they need to run into the PX or BX.

they really can't take anything with them other than whats on their list, so the gift card or cash would be best. If you know them well enough, maybe you could ask if he needs anything off his list like towels or socks?
