My son is going to be confirmed next month. In our church, each teen has an adult mentor who goes with them through the entire process- all the classes, plus several private meetings/discussions. It's a wonderful process for all involved, but definately a big commitment for the adult mentor.

I'd like for DS to give his mentor something of a thank you gift- intent being more of a heartfelt token vs. "payment" or anything. (Eg when I mentored a young lady a couple years ago- she gave me a booked based on a discussion we'd had + a prayer stone {also related to something we'd talked about}.)

Of course, DS offers no clues up to what might be meaningful. (I'm ok with that, he doesn't need to tell me what they talked about! Just lacking tools to make a gift "meaningful".)

I don't want to do a book (just don't think it would be something he'd want) and not jewelry (doesn't wear any.)

His mentor was his former scoutmaster (and still an active scouter), I considered having DS make him a neckkerchief slide. DS carved him a scout-symbol ornament when he "retired". That was well recieved (or at least he was really polite about it :) ). I like the idea of DS making him something, but don't know what or if that is even appropriate.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I love the idea of your son making him something. And since you know about his Scout involvement....the idea of a slide is really quite good. Good job, you didn't really need any help, did you? :) (You could also go to your local Scout store and see what they have in their arts/craft area or see if something else you see 'hits you' as a perfect gift.

We gave my daughter's sponser a picture frame. You could include a picture of them together from scouts.

When my DH was confirmed we went out and bought pocket prayer stones for each person (it was more a roundtable discussion than just a sponsor and candidate situation). Since we are Catholic I bought each of them a Saint that was in keeping with where they were in their lives. For the Deacons St. Francis (Patron Saint of Deacons), for the Golfer St. Anthony (patron Saint of Lost Items, he complained he was always losing golf balls, lol.), etc.

But, they don't cost much but they are a reminder of the occasion and can simply go in their change pocket or purse as a reminder of prayer. When we run into these folks now they still have them.

My daughter is getting confirmed on May 1st. Her sponsor through confirmation is the teenage daughter of our pastor since I am a single mother of three and her father chose not to be involved even though he demanded they still attend church! I like the idea of the prayer stones, I was already thinking about a gift card for her too.
