Preferably something I could mail.

I love to cook and bake and I'm on a budget this Christmas. A few years ago I made caramel corn. Last year I made chocolate covered pretzel rods and Biscotti.

Does anyone have any recipes that make nice gifts??? I am leaning towards making caramel corn since I haven't made it in years and it was a big hit a few years ago, but I'd like to try something new as well.

I do white and milk chocolate pretzels, crackers, animal crackers, etc. They go over well. I'd love carmel corn too.

i always enjoyed those jars with the ingredients to make cookies all inside..or those cinnamon/sugar coated pecans wrapped in fancy boxes...

chocolate covered pretzels... what about plain old cookies... or mini cakes..

My friend does a variation on the chocolate covered pretzels. She uses the twist mini pretzels and puts chocolate or white (almond bark) on top and then a couple of Christmas M&Ms. Every time I have made these for the kids and sent them to school the container comes home empty. A few of the teachers have asked me for the instructions too.

Look for Rachel Rays 5 minute fudge on the Oprah website.
You just melt chocolate, add condensed milk, nuts, and some other ingredients and refrigerate.
Simple and festive.

We're finding that we're need to make gifts this year too. I've got a bread maker so we'll be making a Holiday Bread, Cinnamon Dough Ornaments, Cookie ingredients in a jar, pretzel rods in white chocolate and sprinkles, either fudge or truffles (leaning towards the fudge because it's soooo much easier than the truffles) and then DH is painting snowmen on ivy bowls and then inside will a small votive cup with a candle.

Since hearing about your carmel corn ... do you mind sharing the recipe? I might like to try it if it's easy. I love carmel corn so I don't know if it'll make it into the baskets or not. :p

We did that for my friend's bridal shower as the favor. It was quick, easy, and really inexpensive to do!

You could make ornaments with that cinnamon/glue/applesauce recipe. Use cookie cutouts and decorate with glitter and use ribbon or raffi as hanger? I did this one year; they still smell wonderful years later.

1 1/2 cups ground Cinnamon
1 cup Applesauce
1/3 cup white School glue (like Elmer's)
1 medium sized Bowl
Flat surface for kneading
Wax paper
Rolling pin
Cookie cutters - various types
Knife
Straw
Non-stick cooling rack
Ribbon
Puffy paints, optional

How To Make It

Mix cinnamon, applesauce, and glue together in a bowl.
Remove from the bowl and knead the mixture until it turns into a firm clay.
Let sit for about 30 minutes.
Clay is best used at room temperature. You may need to dust your rolling pin, hands, or working surface with cinnamon, or use wax paper as a working surface.
Roll out clay with a rolling pin to approximately 1/8 of an inch thick.
Use cutters to cut out desired shapes ( we like gingerbread men).
If you are going to hang your shape, use a straw to cut out a hole near the top of the shape.
Place shapes on a non stick cooling rack or wax paper. You will need to keep an eye on them and turn them over occasionally so that they dry evenly and dry flat.
Dry shapes for approximately 5 days.
When dry you may put a ribbon through the hole for hanging on the tree or adding to a package.
You may add puffy paint to decorate your shapes, if you wish.

And so will I, LOL! Please, tell me how to make them :). I bet they would be extra cute with mini M&Ms.
