We have to contribute some stuff to a bake sale Oct. 25th. What sells really well? What would you buy?

I make cookies out of cake mix & package 3-4 of them with some ribbon. The cake mix makes a whole bunch of cookies, and there really tasty. Word to the wise - if you make the chocolate cookies, they don't take nearly as long as the lemon ones do - they are about double the time!! Doesn't matter what mix you use, its just always like this. Heres the recipe:

Cookies from cake mix

1 pkg dry cake mix (any flavor, any brand!)
2 eggs
1/2 cup of oil

OPTIONAL: Your choice of add-ins!

Mix these ingredients together (INSTEAD of the usual ingredients listed on the box for making a cake.) You will get a very stiff mix instead of batter. This is right.

Put in the fridge for about 1/2 hour
Roll into balls, then roll them through either powder sugar, or cinnamon sugar
OR: Drop by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.
Bake at 350 for 7 to 10 minutes.

We used to have a bake sale every Friday at the bank I used to work at for Relay For Life for months. I was tired of baking so I went to Walmart where they had these little pies in boxes for 2/$1.00. I bought 40 of them, took them out of the little boxes and into a ziploc bag, labeled what flavor they are, and sold them for a $1.00 each. They sold out every Friday! We couldn't believe it! This one lady swore up and down that they were homemade but I kept telling her I bought them at Walmart. This works well for the baking impaired ;)

If you're going to make something yourself, honestly, I would buy cake slices in a heartbeat! Cookies and brownies are everywhere but it's hard to get just a slice of cake anywhere (except my local Kroger who's bakery dept. sells just the slices and they know me by name :rolleyes1). Maybe make and frost a cake and slice it into slices putting each slice on a plate and in a ziploc bag with a little fork? Maybe charge $2 (if you get to pick what to charge). Of course this is more labor intensive than cookies/brownies/muffins but I can bet they'd go FAST!

Or whoopie pies! Equally as delicious as cake. I think anything that people don't make on a regular basis or can't just get anywhere would sell quickly.

Now I want cake and whoopie pies. :lovestruc

The Lemon ones are super yummy - I put mini M&Ms in there, and dark chocolate chips :lovestruc My only advice to you on them, is, as I said, they take a good amount longer than the recipe calls for, and also maybe put a smidge LESS oil in them because when rolling them into balls, they are oilier than the chocolate ones I've done. Also, I use a tablespoon to measure when I make them - 2 scoops!!!!

How about pretzel rods drizzled with chocolate and decorated with Halloween or fall sprinkles? These are SO easy. Once they are 'dry', place 2 or 3 in a plastic bag and tie with festive curling ribbon. They are obviously not baked goods but anything 'homemade' like this usually goes fast and it's not something that is likely to be duplicated. These should go fast!

Subbing to this thread because I have a bake sale coming up this weekend!

Didn't think of banana bread or other breads.

OMG - And who doesn't LOVE a chocolate dipped pretzle!!!! I'm on a diet people - lets shut down this thread!!!!!!!!!!! :lmao::lmao:

I make Raspberry Squares and I'm told that they go very fast.

Raspberry Squares

1 1/2 C flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 C brown sugar
1 1/2 C oats
3/4 C butter, softened
18oz jar raspberry jam (I always get seedless)

Mix all ingredients except jam until crumbly. Pat 2/3 of mixture in the bottom of an oil-sprayed 9x13 pan. Spread jam on top of crust. Sprinkle the rest of crumb mixture on top of jam and press it down with your hand fairly snugly. Bake 35 minutes at 350F. You can substiture Apricot or Strawberry jam for the Raspberry jam.

I usually make two batches and cut them pretty big. I then wrap them in plastic wrap individually so they are easy to put on display.

I really like the cake idea NeverlandClub23 mentioned about the cake slices. I love chocolate cake with butter cream frosting. I would buy 2 slices of that in a heart beat!

I was also going to suggest Pretzel rods sipped in chocolate. ANother idea is Carmel Apples with nuts or sprinkles. Yum!

Brownies. With nuts, without nuts, with frosting, without frosting, with chocolate chips, with other stuff....

I'm hungry what can I say :confused3

How about popcorn with chocolate drizzled on it in holiday bags??? I do the popcorn for school events and it sells very well.

I don't mean to sound dense, but what kind of chocolate do you use to drizzle on the pretzels or popcorn?

Thanks :goodvibes Your recipe for Raspberry Squares sounds AMAZING! :lovestruc

I just use melted semi-sweet chocolate chips when I do mine. I'd imagine you could do any kind of chocolate you wanted though. We make these for Christmas every year and they are so yummy. If I'm impatient I do like they do at Goofy's Candy Co. and stick them in the fridge to harden faster.

Speaking of Goofy's, maybe you could make some chocolate drizzled marshmallows too! :goodvibes

You can get a candy coating that works well near the chocolate chips at the grocery store. It comes in a microwavable tray you can use to melt it in. At some stores (WalMart, Michaels, etc.) they have Wilton's candy melts like you would put in a mold. These work well for dipping also. This also works well for the candy coated popcorn mentioned by ellenec. I usually use a white chocolate for popcorn. Sprinkle with a little colored sugar for whatever occasion before the choclate dries. Orange and black works for Halloween or red and green for Christmas.

Don't forget about easy easy Rice Krispie treats! They always seem to be a big hit...

Also, we've done little bags tied up in ribbons of Monkey Munch, some call it Puppy Chow, the rice chex cereal covered in a mixture of chocolate, peanut butter, vanilla, I can't remember what else, and then shaken in powdered sugar. There are lots of recipes on line, or if interested, I can go dig the recipe out. So many love them!
