I'm looking for ideas....does anyone know if they can decorate or send a card from a character? We check in on his BD.

We were supposed to go on the cruise and I was going to purchase the BD decorating package, but the cruise was overbooked. Now that we're doing the land instead, I"m wondering what options they might have for an adult. This BD is a really big deal for my DS3 though because he's been begging and pleading to go to WDW and we say "okay, we'll go for daddy's birthday." (It just so happened that DHs BD fell on our trip dates...I don't actually spoil him enough to take him to WDW for his BD - ha ha) So DS will be so excited to celebrate daddy's BD once we get there.

How sweet! I bet your DS is so excited not only going to WDW, but also making it special for his daddy, too! :goodvibes I have some ideas..I don't know how good they are, but they are just some suggestions:

Give him some kind of B-day hat to wear (one that he'll agree to wear :0)
and maybe amatching one for your DS.
Make up a t-shirt for your DS to wear that says :Today is my Daddy's B-day!

And maybe buy some of those paper things you blow in and they unroll and he can pass them to the check in people. (Let them know ahead of time)

Call WDW florist and have something delivered to the Front Desk, so when you check in it will be waiting for him.

Make PS for a nice restaurant (maybe with characters) and have your DS tell them it's Daddy's b-day and ask if they could sing to him.

Go to WCC (since they like to hoot'n holler it up) and have DS tell the server it's Daddy's b-day and they make your DH do something funny.

I can't think of any more right now. I don't know if they are good suggestions and it would depend on your, DH's, and DS's degrees of shyness, but I really like the idea of the t-shirt. Hope you all have a wonderful vacation and your DH has a great bd!

Consider pre-ordering a birthday cake from the GF Bakery. We have celebrated a few birthdays and anniversaries at the GF and have enjoyed their cakes many times. I actually have a photo of one of them -- click here. The cakes come in different sizes and with different price tags. A special Mickey Mouse version of the cake started at, I think, $40 or $45. I haven't ordered that one yet but have seen photos of it here on the Dis -- it looks great (much more interesting than the plain looking cakes that my family has enjoyed so far). I should note that the GF's cakes are yummy.

Have a wonderful vacation!

Do you know how far ahead of time you need to order a cake from GF bakery? My DS birthday is coming up on vacation next week. We are going to HDDR and may have a cake waiting in our room when we return.

I think if you give them at least 48-hours notice, that would be sufficient. If you call them on the phone right now, however, I bet you could order it today and get it out of the way (the GF's main number is (407) 824-3000; ask them to transfer you to the bakery).

Have a great vacation.

That cake looks yummy! Could you order one and have it sent to another hotel? Or pick it up?

Pbharris4, I have read that you can preorder a cake from the GF Bakery and arrange to pick it up yourself. I don't believe, however, that they will deliver it to another resort. Try not to fret about that too much -- depending upon the resort that you are staying in, you may be able to order a cake directly from your resort's Room Service folks. Contact them and ask them how you would go about ordering a birthday/anniversary cake. They should be able to either handle all the arrangements for you or tell you what to do. Don't forget that you can also contact one of the Disney restaurants and ask them if it's possible to pre-order a small cake for a celebration.

pbharris4, thanks so much for the ideas! I LOVE the idea of the t-shirts! We also have 4 month old twin daughters, so I'm going to make little onesies for them too. I'm not going to tell DH about it. I"ll just pack them and put them on the kids for his BD dinner. He'll love it!

I made PS for WCC as you suggested. DH and I spent our honeymoon at WL and ate there once before so it will be meaningful to eat there. I don't know if they didn't do all the fun stuff back then or if we just had a bummer server, but it was just a regular meal - nothing special. Since then I've heard that it's a riot, so I've been dying to try it again. So this is a perfect opportunity!

DS has a dairy allergy, so most desserts are off-limits for him. I called GF to see if I could order a dairy-free cake, but when they transfered me, the line was busy. I tried to get a dairy free cake for DS last time we were in WDW and was told they couldn't do it, but it's worth another shot.

When I called GF and told them I wanted to plan something special for DH, I was kind of suprised by the lack of enthusiasm or assistance. The 2 people I talked to just kind of sat on the other end of the line in silence. I realize that little kids birthdays are completely magical, and once you get older it's not quite as big of a deal. But I still thought it would be nice to celebrate his special day. It's not like I was expecting them to do anythign for free. I told them I would pay for it. Hmmm? Maybe I'll mention his BD when we check in to see if it makes a difference in person?

I'm glad you liked some of my ideas. I liked the t-shirt/onesie thing too! :flower: I bet you have fun at WCC. Your DC should find it funny if they make your DH do something..like ride a stick pony around or something! That's too bad GF wasn't very "enthusiastic." Personally, if it were me, I would do something myself (like order a gift basket or something..a massage..etc.) I've done stuff like that in the past and it didn't work out and I was disappointed. (DH didn't know anyway) and it was at the Ritz Carlton in the DC area! I was so pissed. Anyway, did you speak with the Concierge at the GF? Maybe he/she could help you out? If not, try www.giftsofalifetime.com or www.wdwflorist.com and they could have it at the check in when you get there or deliver it to your room. I love when people are surprised! The look of happiness on someone's face just makes me feel so happy, too! I hope it all works out for you! :flower:

To be honest, by asking for opinions here, you'll probably get better ideas anyway. In some cases, you'll find the folks on line here to be more knowledgable than some of the staff.

The Disney florist will work with you on creating a unique basket and I know that Shirley is over on the cruise boards quite a bit. She has a site called www.theperfectgift.cc that is worth checking out. I've heard some very nice things about Gifts of a Lifetime. Their events are pricey, but truly unique.

Did you mean that you missed out on the Disney cruise or the Wishes fireworks cruise? Even if the fireworks cruise is sold out, you can still take a specialty cruise around the lake and they will decorate the boat for your birthday party. I would also check out www.relaxedyet.com and see about booking a massage for him.

Don't give up on the GF bakery. They seem to be very accomodating. I don't know about the new "concierge guest service" option thats now available at the resorts. I'm not sure if you have to wait until you register in order to use their services.
