Hi all, we are scheduled to be on the Dec. 14th Eastern Cruise on the Magic. It's a big event for us, we are celebrating my wife's 40th B-day, our 20th wedding anniversary, and my retirement from the Army after 21 1/2 years. I would love some ideas for celebrating these events on the ship. Do I let someone on the Magic know of these events and might they help me in coordinating any suprises, gift baskets etc... I'm not looking for a handout from the ship, just ideas and recommendations. Thanks all.

Hi Disneyfred,
First of all CONGRATULATIONS and welcome!!
Yes, Yes, Yes!!!!! Let the head server know so he can arrange a little surprise at dinner!! There are many special things you can arrange on the cruise ~ such as : Shirley at the 'Perfect Gift', a sponser of this board can do any basket your heart desires. Maybe reserve a special evening at Palo's. How about a romantic spa session? Be such your TA makes a note of celebrations.
So much to celebrate, I know just how you feel!! DH turned 65 last yr. and retired on his BD. We had a big surprise dinner party at a local restaurant, co-workers gave a luncheon party and we also took a big trip to Europe. It took awhile for us to come back the real world....LOL! Enjoy ~ Live each day to the fullest!
The best is yet to come...Hooah ;)

PS - Would love to have you join our Dec 14 cruise thread :)

Let your head server know. DH and I both celebrated birthday's last month on the Wonder. Somehow our server already. At dinner the last night of the cruise we were both given cakes and DCL birthday pins and our servers sang Happy Birthday.

Call Shirley at The Perfect Gift and have her make up something special. It will be in your room when you get on board. DH and I celebrated our anniversay in January (7 months early) and I surprised him with a gift basket.

I agree with 4nana to book one or more of the spa treatments. In Jan we did the surial bath together- we didn't see what the big deal but others enjoy it. A massage together on Castaway Cay would be nice too. Maybe book something as a surprise for your wife-- we like surprises like that:p

Let me tell you what we did for DD18 Graduation onboard the Magic this past August. I had collected about 150 still photos of her life from birth through H.S. Gradution. Every important event in her life was captured on film. I then found a Videographer who then made me two VHS tapes and one DVD. I had picked out music to go along with the montage.

I then phoned DCL about 3 weeks prior to sailing and was able to reserve the ESPN SPORTS CLUB (wanted the Buena Vista Theatre, but couldn't get it) for 1 hour on our Key West morning. I had ordered refreshments and the coordinator onboard even sent a fictious invitation to our stateroom inviting us to the ESPN Club to keep it a surprise.

We played the video montage for her on all the screens (including the huge one) in the club and she was so surprised she was in tears. I didn't even tell my hubby what I had done and he was shocked as well. I wanted to use the DVD, but the club only had the capability to view the VHS. It still looked good.

We were travelling with about 17 friends/family who all happened to be in some of the pictures, so it was really a great morning for everyone. The video technician in the club cost a flat $50 fee. The soda, coffee, teas, juice, danish, etc. was also charged to my account, I think it was about $70.

The only glitch we had was DCL forgot to put the PRIVATE PARTY sign up in front of the club, so people kept coming up. They must have wondered who this person was on the screen and what it had to do with DCL!!!! They also were taking our refreshments thinking it was complimentary to all. When I explain this to DCL they adjusted my price for refreshments. Sorry this was so long.

I called DCL a few days ago (when I was asking about my birth cert) and told them we are celebrating a birthday onboard ship. (Havent had a drink since Labor Day and not having 1 till Im on our cruise vacation)

MJ ~
What you did for your daughter was so sweet it brought tears to my eyes. It is so nice to read something so positive and you must be one special Mom :teeth: You have a beautiful family and we enjoyed your trip report and pictures. :) Take care!

Sandie....thank you so much for your nice words. Keri was really surprised and she could not thank me enough. My husband could not believe I actually sorted thru the pictures without him ever seeing what I was doing! My friend actually had done this for her daughter (not the cruise part, but the video part) and we got the idea from them. My daughter loved her friend's video so much. She asked for one but I told it would be way too much work digging out all the old pictures and sorting thru, etc. Little did she know I had been sorting thru the picture for months already!!!

Thanks again!!!

MJ

Thank's for the ideas, I have read on these boards about Shirley at the Perfect gift, also will do PALO's and the SPA, once again thank you for the ideas, I'll post a trip report to let you all know how it went.

For our retirement cruise on the Wonder in 2000 my daughter had flutes engraved with "Sailing Into Retirement on the Wonder 2000" and when we arrived on board DCL had 3 bottles of wine and the glasses arranged on the table. She had informed DCL that it was a retirement cruise for her parents. What a wonderful surprise for us!!!
