My dear friend had a double masectomy back in June. Since then, she has lost 70 lbs. The chemo had a terrible effect on her. She still is not eating anything, maybe a couple of bites a day. She is scheduled for a colonoscopy tomorrow. My friends and I would like to put together a gift basket for her for Christmas. So far we got her a pink snuggie; she's gets chilled easy. We are also going to bring over food that can be frozen easily. Does anyone have any ideas on what we can add to the basket? TIA

I suggest "uplifting" books that will soothe her soul or bring laughter to her lips. There is a book called "the blue book" or something with funny animal pictures that basically say that bad days are a part of life and it's okay to feel down, but also not to forget to laugh. Also, maybe a collage or scrapbook of pictures of your group of friends through the years. Sometimes it's the things that get your mind off the bad that are most helpful. I wish your friend the best.

Thanks, that's a great idea.

I did this for someone and did a google search on cancer gifts and got some great ideas. One of them were:

DIONIS Hand & Body Lotion is a specially blended formula containing the natural moisturizing qualities of goats milk to relieve dry skin due to treatments and stress. It absorbs quickly for long lasting protection and feels soft and natural on the skin. Unscented - as recommended for cancer patients.

I have a good friend who is a cancer survivor and loves Mickey Mouse. For her two year anniversary of being cancer free I got her:

Nature Sounds CDs - for relaxation.

Fresh flowers or a pretty plant.

Something really comfortable to wear in her favorite color (I imagine her clothes aren't fitting her anymore :guilty: ).

Trashy or fun magazines, publications, books.

Find out what she likes to eat/munch on (now) and include some of that.

? Gift certificates (manicure/pedicure; spa treatment; groceries; gas; movies etc)

It is very thoughtful of you. :flower3:

Maybe a good creme for her skin?
I had a very very dry skin during my chemo and it was thin like paper.

Also a creme for the arm she uses to get the drain. My veins burned like hell.
The longer the chemo lasted the more pain I felled.(They still hurt)
Also I think fresh fruit with lots of vitamins are more than welcome.

A good nail hardener. The nails break very easy and a hardener helps really good. It took me almost a year to get normal nails again. The hospital provided them for free for me.

Further I got a recipe from a Disney CM for some vitamins.
My first thought was :"yeh right "wonderpills".
But after returning home I did order them and they worked miracles.
I could pm you the brand.

my neice had a double mastecotomy several years back, and she realy appreciated the draw string type jogging pants set i got her (kind of velvety feeling-inexpensive and can be found at places like j.c. pennys). it gave her something she could wear to treatments that she could adjust the waistline on depending on if she had lost weight or was retaining fluid. it also did'nt put pressure on her abdomen which got sore from vomiting.

she also liked those spa type socks (thick, fuzzy and warm) to wear when she had treatments and a sleeping mask (if she was able to doze).
