Hello everyone! On Wednesday, I will be meeting my parents at the Yacht Club Resort for a week-long trip to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday. I will be arriving 2 hours before them (flying from separate locations) and the room should be ready by the time I get there. I was thinking about setting up something cool in the room for when she gets there but I'm having trouble with ideas.

First, it has to be something I can put in a carry-on bag for the plane since I won't see my luggage right when I get there.
Second, we have a three year old and a 10 month old staying with us as well. I'd rather not put anything breakable in the room.

I know I could do streamers and blow up balloons myself but I was trying to think of something really different. I looked at the Disney Floral website and wow that's expensive. I don't know if the merch shop at the resort would sell anything I could use.

If anybody has any ideas, I would be very grateful. I get there on Wednesday so time is running short!

I had a similar problem when we took a trip for my daughter's 18th B-Day. Everything too expensive or not quite up to par.

Instead of decorating the room, I rented a pontoon boat to take us out on the water for the wishes fireworks. Complete surprise for my daughter!! They decorated the boat with balloons, took us out on the lake and blasted the Disney "Happy Birthday" song so everyone on the lake could sing along. Chips and pop were provided. They driver even drove us back to our hotel!!! If you had a group of folks, I'd highly recommend it. My daughter still talks about it to this day - a real B-Day highlight! Whatever you choose - a very Happy B-Day to your Mom!

How much did this cost you?

I'm not sure as it was a few years ago - but it did cost a couple hundred dollars - but I think that you can put 8-10 people on the boat, so if you have a group, it is very cost effective. I've even heard of people (on this site) sharing the cost of the boat (4 from your group, 3 from theirs) to keep the cost down. I really think it is worth EVERY penny to see the fireworks this way. They even pipe in the music so you can hear it as the fireworks go off. I'd try calling Disney for this year's cost.
