With the August bank holiday nearly over my thoughts are truning to the autumn. I really hate the shorter days and colder weather (I love wearing my sandals!)

So I thought I'd start a thread where we could suggest something special but simple that we can do in autumn (and I don't mean book a holiday or prepare for Christmas:)) Maybe we'll get a good selection to look forward to by the time the weather does turn.

So I'll start with the obvious

A walk in the country/park/woodland to enjoy the changing trees.

My birthday is in October, so I love the autumn! I like Halloween too - we'll be going to Warwick Castle for Halloween this year as it's just up the road from us. I also love Bonfire night, we usually go to a local primary school where they have a really good bonfire and an impressive fireworks display. I like the darker nights and wearing my jumpers and boots.:rotfl:

I've just found a cool place for a day trip for anyone near to Trentham :) A place called Monkey Forest. It's only £6 for adults and £4.50 for children over 3.

A friend has been there over this weekend and said it was great for a day out. The monkeys are free roaming around you in the forest and there's special talks and feeding areas which the keepers demonstrate through out the day.

Their website Monkey World gives opening times etc and more information on what you can find there.

It'll be something I'll be checking out before it closes at the end of October for the year :)

Me too!!! ::yes:: I love this time of year. The autumn term at school always felt full of excitement after the long summer break and even now, I associate it with new beginnings more than January 1st.

We like to prepare the garden for the following spring - so lots of energetic cutting back and planning what to plant. It's a job-share situation and I love that. We switch from drinking summery rose wine outside to reds and, later, mulled wine - delicious! I also like to get my tubs ready for winter flowering pansies and so on - I change the look/colour scheme each year. Oh and we've planted potatoes for the first time so looking forward to harvesting them nearer Christmas...

On a completely different note, I also look forward to the fact that a lot of our fave TV shows premier around this time of year. After the boring repeats of the summer :faint: that's a welcome change... Bring it on!!! :happytv:

I love autumn as well

i love kicking the leaves that have fallen from the trees

I also love going to the beach in autumn /winter and watching the waves - its great fun wearing old clothes and wellies and jumping over the waves and then dashing back to the car to drink hot chocolate to warm up

This is where my depressions starts ;) I loved it when the weather was sometimes nice into September, and I can carry on wearing my cropped jeans and tops. I hate the thought of jumpers, scarves and gloves

The only things I like about this time of the year is

- the Halloween exchange (which will be starting on 19th September) and I've seen this cute Stitch which I may 'just have' to get (even though he's very similar to one I've already got) ;)

This is how I feel except I'm happiest between march and June - i.e. once the clocks have changed but before the days start getting shorter! So I thought I'd start this thread to get some positive thoughts on autumn.

im not a fan of Autumn either :sad1: to me its just easing us into winter

Autumn is my favourite season. I love Halloween and going to a Fireworks display. Both of my daughter's birthdays are in November and, of course the build up to Christmas.

As others have said the telly gets better too. SCD is back and the Soaps start building up to their big Christmas storylines (sad I know but I'm a soapaholic).

This week I have booked both girls birthday parties, tickets for 2 Pantomimes and a trip to see Joseph in October.

what is even worse, lost is not back until after the new year. how am i going to cope

I don't like the end of summer as it heralds the return of the long dark evenings which I hate. I do enjoy some things about autumn such as Halloween, but other than that it is merely killing time until March / April. I am also not the biggest fan of Christmas, and so I don't look forward to that, although I do like the feeling of relief when January arrives and its all over, and I can look forward to the spring and summer.

To try and lighten the mood this autumn / winter I am going to plan for my Disney Cruise next year and try and get on with some scrap-booking. We may have a Halloween party as thats definitely the best part of Autumn!

I love Autumn and being able to wear my jumpers and scarves and get all wrapped up and go for a nice walk over the fields to the canal.

I love Halloween and bonfire night but most of all the run up to Christmas. If I could change anything it would be that it would stay light until 7.00pm and then just go dark. I hate the fact it starts getting dark at 5 ish as this makes the days seem too short.

I get back from Florida on October 10th and plan to be in my winter wardrobe all snug in my artic anorak which I could quite happily wear all year as it takes a lot for me to feel warm in this country.

Although I don't particularly look forward to it, I do enjoy many elements of Autumn/Winter but for me it's at this time that I'm ready for change.
Our friends are moving to Singapore next week and there is no change in season there, the daylight hours do not change and the temperate only varies from about 22c - 33c all year round. I wouldn't like that.
This time next week SCD will have started it's new series and like Karen says the TV is better with the new season.
We have open fires at home and I do look forward to moving the table in the family room into it's "winter" position and moving my Gran's old leather sofa next to the fireplace.
I like going out for walks and finding a country pub to have a nice lunch in.
By now I'm getting fed up with the girls summer wardrobe and am ready to go out and buy new, I like buying snuggley woolies and boots for them :)
Things that I don't like is that I seem to go from my Birkenstocks to my boots in one day, there is often no inbetween and some days the weather is so unpredictable I don't know what to put on in the mornings:headache:

I am not, however, looking forward to having building work done this winter:headache:
