I want to buy my 28 yr old nephew some alcohol for a gift and have no idea what would be good. He lives in PA which has a state liquor store system so he has a more limited and more expensive selection than I do. Last year I bought him a martini book and some really good Gin and Vodka but would like to buy something different this year. Don't plan on making up a gift bag like last year with the book and shaker etc.

So any ideas of what would be good or what is trendy now with that age people? I don't want to go over $50. this year.

My DS (24) loves Jameson Irish Whiskey. In fact, his brother bought him a bottle for Christmas. He drinks it on the rocks. So, maybe a bottle and some highball glasses?

A bottle of Cabo Wabo or Patron would be nice.

Does he like beer? I made Dh a beer basket. I purchased a few beers from Dogfish Head: BI*C*S Brew in honor of the Anniversary of the Album by Miles Davis. Theobroma, Punkin Ale, Sha' Tea. I also got him a bottle of Arrogant Basta*d, and a few others.
Just wanted to add that these are man beers as DH likes to say . So a Miller lite beer drinker might not like them. But at 28 he should be ready to join the big league.

Do you have a good microbrewery close to you? If I were sending an alcohol gift I'd go down to our best (IMO) microbrewery, The Great Lakes Brewing Company, and send out a couple of six packs.

Do you have World Market around where you live? They have lots of specialty alcohol- including wines, and beers, glasses, all kinds of stuff you could choose from. Maybe do some wine and imported cheese, beer and pretzels, or tequilla, margarita mix and some nice margarita glasses. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the ideas.

I actually did the beers from World market 2 or 3 years ago and the vodka and gin last year. I'm not getting any glasses this year because he got married this past summer with a very large wedding and I'm sure they got all kind of glasses and such.

We do have a micro brewery in town so I may go see what they have different, he did like the beers from around the world but he was a bit younger.

Is there a particular brand of flavored vodka that is good? I kinda like that idea because like I said I know the selection in Pa is limited with their archaic system so I like to get things he can't get there. and get a couple of different flavors.

We are driving in this weekend so I don't have to send it.

My niece is 21 and she and her friends are into sampling tequilas. Most people think of tequila as part of a margarita, but sipping tequilas (meaning not meant to be in something) are very tasty.

Do we really have that limited of a selection up here? I dont venture outside of my state enough to know lol Anyway.. whipped cream vodka is good in orange soda and root beer... but since I'm in PA and I know I can get it here you might want to get him something else? So far everything that's been suggested I know I can get at the state store or my local beer place which is awesome! So many different beers.. I love beer.. free tastings every friday. Also I know you said you are driving but FYI to those who dont know you can NOT ship in liquor of any kind to PA... yes that DOES suck but most liquor stores are willing to have it shipped to them for you...

While the PA State Store system is archaic and a PITA, the selection is not limited. With the exception of the local micro breweries, nothing has been mentioned on this thread that cannot be purchased at a State Store. :sad2:

I'd probably go with a flavored vodka.

My hubby loves his Gold Label Johnnie Walker. I am saving up to buy him a bottle of the Blue label for his birthday but at $225 a bottle, it might not be this birthday!

I have a bottle of Johnie Walker Blue and it is very very good!

It came in a little blue leather (or leather like) suitcase.
