ideas for a "Finding Nemo" toddler party (update..pics added)

Aww! The cake is so cute! I love how the theme matches, and I hope your son's "lucky lung" doesn't give him any problems. My youngest was born with breathing problems and having a baby in the NICU was harder than I had ever imagined it would be. All is well now as I hope it is for you too.

We did a Nemo birthday for my oldest’s first birthday and did one of those cupcake trees for the cake. I bought the small set of plastic Nemo figurines you see at the Disney Store.

We didn't really do any games since my son was so young and the kids there were kinda too old to get into it.

I love you Bruce idea for picture taking! Very clever!

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I'll make sure and pass them along to DH and my cousin. :)

We've been extremely blessed! Yes, things are great for us now. We do still see a pulmo every 4mths but that's nothing compared to how things could've gone. (and have gone for many born with this condition)

May I ask...what kind of breathing issues your son had? (hope that's not *too* nosy. Just wondering if they had similar issues)

My son was born with congenital diaphragmatic hernia...left-sided. He was also on ECMO for 10 days. (last effort to save life) He stayed in the hospital for 3mths and came home on oxygen. He remained on O2 till he was 9mths old.

Here are a couple of links that might better explain the condition, if you are interested.

I totally agree...the NICU/PICU was extrememly difficult for us. When my son was most critical...I don't remember those couple weeks at all. That's weird, isn't it? I try to think back and it's all a blank to me. There are a few scenes I can remember but the color seems so dim. Anyway...I'm going wayyyyy off topic now. LOL

Ryan took a HUGE gulp of amnio. fuild before he was born via c-section. He had to be on that machine that pushes the lungs open. I don't remember what they called it for sure (C-PAP perhaps?)

I feel for anyone that has to have a baby in the NICU for any length of time, because my son was only in there for a day and it felt like years to me! It just wasn't something I was expecting to happen. I know there are so many out there that have far more tramatic experiences and outcomes.

Healthy babies are such a blessing, I'm thankful your story has a happy ending too!
