My sister and I are taking my two daugters on a girlie holiday to Orlando. One week on site at Universal and one week in a villa. My eldest will turn 13 while we're there. Any suggestions for somewhere a bit more grown up than TGI's but still fun and lively for a 'new' teenager!!??

Hi,
Just a thought... is she an 'old' 13 or 'young' 13? Why not book a place at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for her first.. so she looks like a princess.. then go to somewhere at DTD?! There are so many great places to eat there? If you want to go 'off site', try somewhere like Olive Garden.. lovely food at reasonable prices.. and if you tell them its her birthday.. they'll do something special for her!
Good luck with whatever you decide!!

Have you been to Orlando before? Does her birthday fall during the Universal week or the villa week? I'm sort of assuming you've been before, in which case a lot of these suggestions probably won't sound very interesting!

After numerous trips, I still think Hard Rock Cafe at CityWalk is one of the coolest places. If you want something a bit more special, Tchoup Chop at Royal Pacific is more upscale, but not stuffy and the restaurant itself is beautiful. Mama Della's at Portofino Bay is something a bit different. It has a much more Disneyfied feel to it than most of the other restaurants at Universal.

Salt Island Chophouse and Fish Market is close by, just north of Sand Lake Road on International Drive. It's a truly stunning restaurant. A bit further north on I-Drive is Texas de Brazil. It's a tad cavernous inside, but it's nicely done all the same. There are also some new options at Festival Bay (in the same area) which I've yet to try, but which get good reviews, especially Dixie Crossroads. I can't wait to try the new Tommy Bahama Cafe and The Capital Grille, both at Pointe Orlando at the opposite end of I-Drive.

A lot of people rave about Bahama Breeze which has outlets on I-Drive and at Lake Buena Vista. There can be long waits at the I-Drive location (and probably the other one, too). I thought the quality of the food was poor, but the ambiance was good and would probably appeal to a teenager.

Downtown Disney is a good suggestion. Rainforest Cafe seems to be a 'love it' or 'hate it' kind of place. I've always enjoyed it (although we tend to visit the one at Animal Kingdom). Wolfgang Puck's is a happening place. Both get busy.

Whereabouts is your villa? Carrabbas is very popular, although we tend to use it for take-out. Ditto Outback Steakhouse, another popular place which doesn't do all that much for me.

Can you tell you've hit on my favourite subject? :rotfl: I could literally go on all day!

Wow, thanks for the replies!

My near teen daughter would consider herself far too grown up for princess makeovers but my 9 year old certainly wouldn't so I can definately see a visit to BBB on our agenda! Is The Crab House still good at Downtown Disney? It was our favourite restaurant when we last visited!

Thanks for all the great restaurant recs. We are real foodies and had already decided that dinner at Tchoup Tchop was a definate while we are at Universal!
My near teen daughter also loves good food so I will let her look thru your ideas and see what she fancies!

Her birthday falls in our second week when we will be based in Westridge on
H27 so still fairly central! Couldn't persuade my girls to spend the second week at the beach when there is soooo much fun to be had in Orlando! Last time we visited we only did Disney and Discovery Cove/Seaworld as my little one wasn't big enough for the big rides at Universal. Hence the idea to start there this time. And my sister is not one for having to queue for anything if it can be avoided, so for the first time we are staying onsite! Can't wait!!

Hi when my daughter turned 13 over there, I booked her into Mandara Spa for a teen beauty lesson plus my DW had a massage as well a girls day and she loved it, we had dinner at Tchoup Tchoup that night as well

Thanks for that - it's right up her street! You know what they are like! 13 going on 20!
