Idea... who to contact? DVC for pets

Sorry I 110% disagree with the DVC for pets/DVC resort that allows pets. How cruel can one be to go on a Disney vacation be out from morning to night at the parks; the pets in the room alone for our own selfish reasons bring our animals.

Unfortunately, I think you missed the point completely

Allow pets in a human hotel..no. Build a whole resort FOR pets, yes.

Seriously, the prices really aren't outrageous. Compare that to the typical kennel found at most vets and a few "luxury" pet boarding businesses here, which basically offer large indoor dog crates made of chain link (no outdoor access) with two potty breaks per day for the average bargain price of $45.00.

Sorry, but I do NOT think two potty breaks a day is "luxury" care! I make sure our boarders get at a minimum....5 potty breaks a day, and even when I have a kennel sitter for our trips, I have them turned out 4 times.

I can't complain. We have 4 cats, and our vet boards them for a little less than $15 per night each. Three of the cats seem fine with it. The alpha female, though, always has a severe "I'm mad at the world" day when she returns home.

We used to have dogs, no cats, and the neighbor cared for them. but she is older now, and 4 cats is just too much for her. I look after her mini-dachshund when she is away.

I agree... that's why "luxury" is in quotes! The pets we have that stay at home when we travel stay at a person's home set on 3 acres, with plenty of run time and indoor/outdoor kennels. I'm just giving a comparison for the prices... not endorsing any particular practice (or lack thereof) at your local kennel. Most kennels offer a base number of potty breaks and a base amount of play time which you can add to ala carte. So, your pet can receive the exact amount of attention you desire. Disney is offering the same.

It sounds like your boarders get excellent care. As a comparison, how much do you charge for your boarding services?

We are boarding our dogs there in July. It will cost us a small fortune now that we have two dogs.
We now have a miniature dachshund. She just turned 9 months old. We are going to board them in the same run. They will put a smaller raised bed in for her each night. They give a 25% discount if you board together. What do you think???? They only have the indoor/outdoor runs. They don't board any dogs in crates even if they are small. I would love your opinion. Thanks

We also add Social Play every other day while they are there. That will cost 7 bucks each for each time they do that. They get kennel baths on pick up.

I have limited boarding available, since I have 7 dogs of my own and I only board dogs that were purchased from me. I charge $20/day/dog unless there are two dogs from the same home who can share a kennel. Then I charge $15/dog/day for those.

Frankly, I think that's somewhat reasonable for a large boarding facility. We have 6X8 indoor runs with 6X20 covered outdoor runs for each dog, and we don't charge extra for meds etc. I do ask clients to bring any special food though, should their dog have a specific diet requirement.

I explained in a previous post about the multiple dogs per run cost. We also do not use crates for boarding dogs UNLESS it's a puppy who is still in the crate training stage.

Okay thanks.... they just added the 2 bucks per day extra fee during the holidays and summer months. That is new. We always bring dog food. the outside runs are also covered at Happy Tails. We have always been pleased with them and feel the cost is worth it. It just seems like a huge bill now that we are adding two dogs. I think I figured out it would run us about 935 for the days they are there. I almost feel guilty for them being boarded 17 days. We are dropping them off late afternoon/early evening the first day ..we leave the next morning very early. Then on pick up day we will pick them up late afternoon after we get home the same afternoon. We are driving to WDW this time so that adds a couple of extra travel days. We have always flown. I hope they will be okay. That is why we are boarding together.

I recently had two dogs go home who were here for 20 days while their owners were in Europe. I hated to see them go!

Oh, and just to make you feel better...it costs us about $125 a day to have someone come in and do our dogs when we are gone.

I'm happy to see Disney offering quality pet care even though we'll never use it since we live on the left coast. Leaving our dog behind has always been the one negative to our WDW magic . In fact we skipped our annual trip the first year we had our present dog because he's very needy and I didn't have a sitter. Fortunately I've since found a great arrangement in a private home where he has free reign of the house and large yard, just like at home. Of course he's still not happy to be left behind but it's certainly better than any other boarding kennel I've seen. For a dog like mine, who's not particularly social with other dogs (he thinks he's a people) the best thing would be an in-home sitter but barring that I feel I've found the next best thing.
