My daughter saved coins and birthday money for a little over a year and had almost $80 to take on our first trip to WDW. After receiving her lanyard as a part of our Dream Maker package, she became very interested in the pins sold at our hotel, the CR. Since they do cost a lot, we decided together to make the pins extra special. My 6 yr old's favorite park, and the one we felt was the most magical, was the MK. We bought the pins that were available for the rides we did at the MK and placed them on her lanyard in the order in which we rode them. We added a Chef Mickey's pin after having a great experience there, a Tinkerbell since we were right under her during Wishes, then added one for Typhoon Lagoon. We also bought a few to show which characters she met around the park. Even though she used all of her money for these pins, she doesn't have any regrets. She shows her lanyard to everyone and tells them about the trip by going from pin to pin. Everytime I look at it, I remember each experience clearly (and, of course, in order). These are definitely not for trading! My DD lanyard and pins tell the story of a truly magical first trip to WDW!

We did something similar this past trip. It was the first time we did the "pin thing". I had pre-purchased a lot of pins on ebay and through cheappins.com. I kind of sorted them out by child, and by event/ride. We gave DS a Buzz SRS pin after his first ride. THen DD got a Splash Mtn pin after her 1st ride on that. THey also each got some pins to trade/give away. I had a few "special" pins I had bought..... gave DD a few princess pins after her birthday breakfast with Cinderella and gave DS a CHef Mickey pin after his birthday dinner with Mickey. They also each chose to buy a few pins with their spending money while we were there. ..........................P

I agree with your idea. Our pin lanyards only contain special pins (from tours, honeymoon, given to me by cast member just because...etc). There are a lot of great memories (not that i would ever trade any of them...)

yep - we have one side for trading and one for saving. Our special pins:

dd8 - Belle (her name), Cinderella (after meeting her), one for each park she visited including Blizzard Beach, the Castle, Goofy (because she marched in the parade with him), Fantasmic.

dd15- Mickey in Safari outfit (because she'll never get over stepping on his foot at AK and leaving a big footprint on him), Queen of Hearts (she made quite the impression on us), tower of terror, star tours, all her favorite rides. Fantasmic.

All my pins I buy have to be memory ones or of my 3 catagories (Lilo, Coaster, Monorails)- It helps with the buying and also makes them priceless-

This upcoming trip we have promised our daughter a pin for every new ride she goes on that she was previously too scared to ride. Sorta like a bravery lanyard. We thought this would be a great way for her to try some new rides out. Although she is my oldest she is scared of POTC, even Muppets! (But, will ride HM over and over, go figure!)

Now my youngest is wanting to ride stuff already that she isn't tall enough for. Funny how different sisters can be!::yes::

I have a resort pin collection for every where we have stayed. Hubby collects ride pins. Course, the girls usually pick princesses.
