I've read on the boards that guest serv. will have the all characters sign a pillowcase. I'm thinking of getting a large mat, the kind you put in a frame, and have them sign that. Then I will add our best cruise picture with the characters. Is this possible, or do they only sign the cases ?

The pillowcases that people are talking about are left at the Guest Service desk in a bag with markers and then the characters sign them and the case is to be picked back up at the desk a day or two later.

I guess if you supply the mat with instructions and make sure your name and cabin are with it, I don't see why they wouldn't do it. Just ask at guest service desk first. It's a nice idea!!!!

When I dropped off the pillowcases at Guest Services last week they first made sure they were a Disney product before he would take them from me. Luckily, I bought the pillowcases at Kmart who carries the Disney line and they were all Disney pillowcases.
My DDs was especially nice because her pillowcase had Cinderella on one side and Snow White on the other and they both signed their picture.

Sweetspot, I have plain white pillowcases from Target. Will they sign those, or do they have to have disney characters on them?

We just got back from a fantastic time on the 3 night Wonder cruise which left on Halloween! We dropped off some pillowcases at guest services, and she never questioned them or looked to make sure they were "Disney related". We had each pillowcase embroidered with Disney Halloween Cruise 2002, which was encircled with a pumpkin, and they were bought at K-Mart so they were Disney ones, but you couldn't see that they were the way we had them folded. We had each pillowcase in a seperate ziplock bag with the childs name and cabin number labeled on it, and had a sharpie in each bag. When they signed the pillowcases, they addressed each one to the child (i.e. To Zack,). These are definately a treasured keepsake! They also delivered each pillowcase to our staterooms so they were there waiting for our kids when we returned!

So in short, I don't think it matters much whether your pillowcases, t-shirts, picture mats or whatever are "Disney" or not. I think they are happy to sign whatever for your children!!

Have fun on your cruise!!

Aw, I wish I'd known about that when I was on the 7 day 10/26 cruise. I love things like that!

Just to be safe, and to avoid problems, do try to get a Disney product. We took plain pillow cases, the CM did question if they were Disney, but he did take them and they were returned autographed. However, our kids had plain baseball caps that we tried to get signed at the character breakfast, and Pluto, via sign language, said he could not sign them. Seemed to be O.K. if you wanted to wait around and get it done"behind the scenes" but we did not bother. Seems kinda cheap, especially since once they are signed they become a great advertisement for Disney. My younger son wanted a captains hat, but there was no such thing on board. He bought one in St Thomas, and attracted a lot of attention when he constantly wore it for the rest of the cruise, but again, no one would sign it. If Disney does start to insist on signing only Disney products, then they need to expand their line. There isn't room on most of their stuff to hold all the signatures. They also need to make the policy CLEAR.

In Jan we purchased a t-shirt on board that said 'My first Disney Cruise'. Wendy, Cinderella, and Snow White signed it for us but the CM with Minnie told be I had to take to Guest Services.

Okay, this is all new to me! Is there a link to any official info about these autographs? This is one of the things I may have missed out on if I was cruising right now, without the benefit of the board!!!

Hey, I LOVE the picture mat idea!!! Would be too cool to have several mat's handy.... If you happen to get a photo of your DS or DD with say, Goofy, then have a mat autographed with Goofy's signature, slip in the photo, (or use in Scrapbook ) Voila...

More details please!! How does all this work. Do the Characters generally sign autographs at appearances? Seems like this would be like really time consuming... Is this why they ask you to leave items at the desk... Do you have to provide the permanent marker as well?

They should indeed offer a good line of Disney stuff, given the limitation!!! I have always wondered about a Sailors, or Captains hat for DS, Seems this would sell, big time.... But is not available!! I want a sailors cap with MM ears!!!

PS: YES I DO SEE why Disney limits these autographs to Disney products... As one poster just said, This is a walking DISNEY advertisment, not Martha Stewart!!! And, no they do NOT want Mickey's signature on your favorite Bud Beer T-Shirt!! LOL!!! :D :D :D

On our June 2002 cruise, we purchased a map of the Disney cruise route that included a mat and all the ships officers signed the mat. We framed it when we got home and it looks great in our son's room. I believe the price was approx. $16.
We also purchased a Disney cookbook and all the characters signed it!
Sure wish we were going again soon!

I think the problem is that it is a service that is not advertised officially. I believe it started by a guest just asking if something like this could be done and posted it on these boards. The rest is history. The idea has taken off by word of mouth...I have always heard that it did have to be a Disney product, even if just the tag said Disney.

If too many people start complaining about what can and can't be signed, they will probably do one of two things..... pull the service completely or probably realize a buck could be made this way and start charging!!!!. I am sure Disney started out doing this just to appease a guest and was going above and beyond for them. It has since become very popular. Let's not all get carried away with what they want signed. I can definitely see why they would want their own products. I can't understand why they don't sell the sailor hat, though, that would be too cute, and Disney could easily put a tiny DCL logo on it to make it "Disney".

There were a few Mickey Captains hats for sale on the ship, but all huge over-sized adult costume type things, huge Mickey ears, al la the Goofy type hat.

On our 11/3 wonder cruise I brought PLAIN WHITE pillowcases with me down to guest services with an array of colorful sharpie markers - they signed those and look awesome!! The signatures are all different colors!!

I guess it all depends on the person you get when you go to guest services!!

Here's a pictue of a pillowcase that we made with a picture and phot trasfer paper on the compter.

We brought plain white pillowcases in March, but they probably changed the policy now. My dd's friends (brother and 2 sisters) were fish sitting for us and we brought them each a pillowcase as a souvenior. They loved it! It was such a hit. Make sure you bring bright dark colors for them to sign. On the reverse side, I wrote myself "Hi from your pals on the Disney Magic"

bigd332 - LOVE the transfer. How and where did you get/do that?

You can copy that logo off of DCL website. It is on the first page. I have download that image and put it on my address labels. I know they sell those transfer papers that you can put in the printer and print. Then you iron on the transfer to whatever you want!!!

Thanx for sharing your pix with us. They were great!
Our DGC don't know, but I have 7 Disney pillowcases ready
to roll, so I sure hope they are still autographing. I think it
makes a wonderful souvie to sleep with every nite. I may
just have to get one for myself!!! ;)

I can't imagine why it would have to be Disney related. For heavens' sake DCL...lighten up. These are children's treasures. My son had his WDW autograph book and got the signatures. My daughter had her school notebook...plain black and white and got the same signatures.

If they are going to start demanding official Disney, then might I suggest pinning a copy of the receipt for what the parent paid for the cruise onto the plain pillowcase!:(
