I'd Walk a Mile for a Cupcake- an SSR Quickie! 4/4-4/7/11 FINISHED!! 6/29

As promised, here is ALL the excitement of Tyler's Disney surprise...not exactly that magical of a moment, but what can we expect from a 13 year old boy?? :rotfl:

Teenagers! Gotta luv'em!!! idk for sure but your DS's reaction seemed kinda in between ' I knew I would end up going all along ' and ' but Mooooommmmm, maybe I really wanted to go to PT & play baseball in the pouring rain this week !!! ' :rotfl2:

My brother (now 17) is exactly like that. It's not that he isn't happy, but he doesn't show his excitement like you or me. It usually settles in and he's truly happy and keeps saying "That's Tight" or something to that effect.

LUV IT! I have to say, if I tried to take Sarah or Rob on a trip without telling them WAY ahead of time I would probably be told, "no way can I go today. I need to ___ or ____ or ____ or cut grass or go to Anna's house or clean my room", ok so not "clean my room". :rotfl:

You post great pictures and an interesting trip report! I love reading what you have to say!!! I have a craving for a meatball sandwich, and I'm just going to have to try EOS later this week.

Bobbi:goodvibes

Thank-you, Bobbi! I hope you are enjoying your vacation...and your meatball sandwich! :goodvibes

Oh my goodness. I can't tell you how much I'm missing WDW right now, and how much your trip report reminds me of us! We haven't been since last July (due to DS's baseball - he's a freshman this year - we couldn't go during spring break! :headache:), and I'm having BAD withdrawals!

Your trip report reminds me of everything I enjoy at Disney. I dearly love OKW and SSR. Earl is one of our favorite places to eat, and going under that Walt Disney World arch on ME is warming to my heart. :goodvibes

We JUST broke the 100-day mark until our July vacation, so thanks for feeding my addiction! :lmao: Also, thanks for sharing your story, as I'm a sucker for last minute surprises! They are the best! I'm so glad your other son got to go with you.

I am so happy you like the TR!!! :goodvibes Thank-you! That will be us next year- no more spring break when Tyler is a Freshman- that was the MAJOR reason I wanted him to go this year- It's all just OVER so FAST!!! :sad2:

Thanks for all the kind words-

Yay Ellen, was hoping you'd be posting a trip report soon :yay:

How nice you got to do spur of the moment trip with your boys!

subscribing ! :surfweb:

:)
laura

Hi Laura!! :) I don't think I could go on a Disney trip and NOT do a TR!! Glad you're subscribing!

We were just at SSR 3 weeks ago and seeing all your great pictures made me homesick for Disney already!:thumbsup2

I am homesick for Disney right away, too- the only thing that helps is planning back-to-back trips (I'm going again May 13th). :yay:

We're headed to SSR first week of May and your TR is just what we need to keep us tied over until then.

EOS looks awesome especially your sandwich. mmmmm I'll have to head over there on arrival day as we have nothing planned until later that evening.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

You're welcome and I hope you have a wonderful time in May!! I highly recommend a first night trip to EOS! :thumbsup2

Almost, almost, but still possible. The weekend he was thinking we're suppose to be going to see my youngest DD at school. OH DARN those kids ;) But after your pictures, he's not thinking he can wait much longer. You keep posting those wonderful pictures!

I will do my best!! I'll post updates tomorrow!

Stalking again! :rotfl:

I just love the surprise trips. We did that last year for MNSSHP for DD -- she thought she was going for a flu shot, and instead it was a surprise birthday weekend at WDW. I think I've figured out how to do another one (no details here ... she stalks me!) but we'll have to wait awhile to see if all the logistics fall into place.

Meantime, I am also loving seeing another DVC resort.

Wow, that is REALLY a surprise- to go from a flu shot to WDW!! She must have been UBER-thrilled!! Good luck planning another one!:thumbsup2

Great report! Love all the pictures!

Thank-you!! I have loads more to post!

Great timing on your trip--a few days earlier and you would have hit the torrential rain and tornado warnings! Luckily it cleared up for the rest of our trip!

Yea- that tornado thing is just a little scary!! :scared1: Glad I missed it!

Loving your TR. Just got back a couple of weeks ago and missing Disney already. I took the same seat on ME to get my pic too.:lmao:

Yep- that's the seat you need if you want that pic! :thumbsup2 I miss it already, too- funny how fast you can get homesick....

I'm here. :cool1: Thanks for sharing.

Hellooooooooo!!!!!! Thanks for joining in on another one!

Teenagers! Gotta luv'em!!! idk for sure but your DS's reaction seemed kinda in between ' I knew I would end up going all along ' and ' but Mooooommmmm, maybe I really wanted to go to PT & play baseball in the pouring rain this week !!! ' :rotfl2:

:rotfl: He really did NOT think he was going, though- he thought he was going to baseball for sure.

My brother (now 17) is exactly like that. It's not that he isn't happy, but he doesn't show his excitement like you or me. It usually settles in and he's truly happy and keeps saying "That's Tight" or something to that effect.

Ok- that makes me feel better! :rotfl: I am the opposite of him (my son Timmy & I are more alike, and Tyler is alot like my DH), but I still thought he would be screaming or something!

LUV IT! I have to say, if I tried to take Sarah or Rob on a trip without telling them WAY ahead of time I would probably be told, "no way can I go today. I need to ___ or ____ or ____ or cut grass or go to Anna's house or clean my room", ok so not "clean my room". :rotfl:

:rotfl2: If she wants to clean her room instead of go to Disney- :scared1:

I love EOS and your pictures made me both hunger and home-sick!:cloud9:

Well, that may happen a lot in this TR, so don't say I didn't warn you!! :goodvibes

I'm taking my son who will be a toddler on a trip to Disney. I was looking for TRs with little guys, but stumbled on this one instead. I'm really enjoying it. Your DS was excited in his own I'm a 13 year old guy being filmed and I gotta act cool kind of way!

I love the video of your son's reaction!!:lmao: That is such a typical 13-year-old boy! I have a 15 YO boy and 13 YO girl, and my son would be the same way, but my DD would be jumping up and down and going nuts!

Great pictures, looks like it's going to be a fun trip!:thumbsup2

Ok....I wrote this then managed to somehow erase it, so let me try again.....

We headed over to DHS on our first night, because the FIRST ride Timmy wanted to go on in WDW was RnRC. Pretty sure Tyler felt the same way about it.

IMG_0973.jpg

That night was EMH, and miraculously, the park was fairly empty. We opted to do the Single Rider line (and yes, Nikki, I made them sing the song with me!) and that made RnRC LITERALLY a walk-on. :thumbsup2 I got the last row for my first ride- talk about kicking the vacation off in a BIG way!

IMG_0974.jpg

Before we took off, I asked the woman next to me if she liked riding in the last row- she was like, "Why? Is it different?" :rotfl2: I said, Hang on, lady- you goin' for a RIDE!!! :lmao: Tim & Ty were in the limo behind me-

IMG_0975.jpg

IMG_0976.jpg

We ended up riding two more times, both in the front row!! :yay: While we were there, we texted Mark, our favorite CM. Mark is my friend Joan's hubby's cousin, and from our hometown. He is the engineer for RnRC, and the soundsystem of the ride is his baby. How cool is he?? :worship: He really is a nice guy- and not just an employee, he is SOOOOOOO Disney! :smickey: That night, he would be working until 7am- he explained after the parks close, ALL of the attractions are inspected, every inch of them, so they are not only safe, but are absolute perfection for the next day's guests. One of the many, many ways Disney is so magical. The boys thought he was awesome!

IMG_0977.jpg

He actually just got promoted, and will soon be one of the CMs overseeing this nighttime activity at WDW. YAY MARK!!! :yay: We said our goodbye's, and went in search of some waters (we were super thirsty after all the screaming on RnRC!). For the first time ever, we saw this open-

IMG_0981.jpg

I know it is only open seasonally, and I guess the seasons we usually come are not busy enough. Anyway, here's a couple of pics-

IMG_0978.jpg

IMG_0979.jpg

I was very curious about those tube-sandwiches (I think Cory mentioned them on the podcast), but still full from EOS, so not today, folks. While we were chugging our waters, someone handed us FPs for TSM ...so that's where we went next! On the way....

Cont'd next post-

Tyler got into 3-D mode....

IMG_0992.jpg

IMG_0993.jpg

IMG_0994.jpg

The CMs were hammin' it up for the camera-

IMG_0997.jpg

I rode by myself....and i did ok! :) Kicked my boys' butts!!:rotfl:

IMG_0999.jpg

IMG_1002.jpg

From there, we actually left the park...because tonight was the BIG basketball game, and Timmy did NOT want to miss UConn win March Madness!

IMG_1004.jpg

But, instead of going right back to our room, we hopped on the first nearby bus (which was OKW) and then hopped on a DTD bus from there, because we were ALL in the mood for some ice cream!!

IMG_1005.jpg

The place was PACKED, but we only waited about 15 minutes for our ice cream.

IMG_1006.jpg

Timmy got his usual, which is a vanilla cone with sprinkles-

IMG_1007.jpg

Tyler had The Golden Gate - Banana Split - A trio of vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ice cream each paired with perfect toppings - crushed pineapple, sliced strawberries, and homemade chocolate syrup. All finished with fresh bananas, whipped cream, chopped almonds, and a cherry $8.95

IMG_1008.jpg

And I had to have The Gold Rush - Peanut Butter Hot Fudge Sundae - Vanilla ice cream with freshly homemade hot fudge and melted peanut butter throughout. Topped with whipped cream, chopped almonds, a cherry and Ghirardelli Squares milk chocolate $8.95

IMG_1009.jpg

It was yummy....but I think I like the No Way Jose better. The NWJ peanut sauce is yummier, I think. A LOT of people stopped us to ask where we got the ice cream from- I actually ended up handing one of them the menu I had snagged, and WOW were they happy!! I have to say, on this trip, we met MANY MANY nice people- on every bus, in every line- the parks were filled that week with really good tourists- so much so, that my kids were questioning just how many strangers I was going to talk to! :rotfl2: There was an entertainer leading the crowd in some dances over here-

IMG_1011.jpg

Those people looked like they were having fun, but we couldn't join them, we were already late for the game. We got to the line for the boat, and who did we run into, but friends from home who were staying at SSR, too!! It's always fun to run into people you know on vacation, isn't it? Well, while we were staying at SSR, there were 4 other families from town who were staying at SSR, too- I WISH I would have remembered to take pics! I love the Webers, and Judy is so funny! Anyway, it made for a nice ride back to the resort. Those two families were over in the Grandstand (they both own SSR points and usually vacation here together in a GV, although this time they were seperate), and when we docked the boys took off for the villa, while I went to the store with my friends (who knew all the CMs VERY well!) to pick up a bottle of wine for the room. Later that night, Timmy celebrated the UConn victory-

IMG_1013.jpg

IMG_1012.jpg

Tomorrow....I think we'll be heading to Epcot! :thumbsup2

I woke up first on Tuesday morning (and Wednesday morning and Thursday morning....) and made my way over to AP to fill my newly purchased mug with java. It was overcast, but not raining yet. Both boys were still snoozing- but I woke Tyler up before I left so he could start showering- he takes very loooooooooong showers, and I wanted to get to a park BEFORE the fireworks began today. Here's our balcony-

IMG_1014.jpg

It is the one on the third floor-

IMG_1015.jpg

I love being at the end of the hallway, right next to the stairs! While I walked over, I saw....

IMG_1016.jpg

IMG_1017.jpg

Breakfast offerings (but we were having croissant sausage sandwiches I had brought, frozen in a cooler, from home)-

IMG_1018.jpg

SSR has resort specific merchandise-

IMG_1019.jpg

I meant to buy one of those shirts when I was there, they were on sale for like $14. Oops! Actually, alot of that merchandise was on sale. I needed to go to the front desk, I had left my medication at home and my neighbor had overnighted it to me. (I take celebrex for inflammatory arthritis, and this weather today was NOT helping). On the way-

IMG_1020.jpg

IMG_1021.jpg

IMG_1022.jpg

My package had not arrived yet, but the rain sure had!! It was pouring when I ran back to the room!!

IMG_1023.jpg

IMG_1026.jpg

With the rain came thunder and lightning- which my kids refused to go out in...so we had a little time to kill before the thunder faded, and I convinced them it was safe to go out. Originally, we had planned to go to MK on this day- but the rain changed our minds- and we chose Epcot instead. I don't know- I just hate to go to MK in the rain- I need a BIG blue sky behind that castle, KWIM? But rain at Epcot? I guess I've experienced it so many times, it almost feels weird for the sun to shine when I'm there! :rotfl: My boys-

IMG_1027.jpg

I LOVED the new Toy Story topiaries!! I think they looked GREAT!!

IMG_1028.jpg

IMG_1029.jpg

We hustled over to Soarin to pick up some FPs, then headed over to Innoventions to ride the Sum of all Thrills.

IMG_1030.jpg

Up next....the sum of all stupidity- courtesy of yours truly. :sad2:

Great trip report.:thumbsup2
Love your pictures, and video:yay:

Thank-you!! :goodvibes

I'm taking my son who will be a toddler on a trip to Disney. I was looking for TRs with little guys, but stumbled on this one instead. I'm really enjoying it. Your DS was excited in his own I'm a 13 year old guy being filmed and I gotta act cool kind of way!

Yes, that's EXACTLY how he was- now you know what you have to look forward to in 11 years! :rotfl: Have a blast with your little guy!! :lovestruc

Well, that's comforting to hear- always good to know he was acting appropriately for who he is, even if it wasn't the reaction I was looking for! :rotfl: I was jumping up and down and going nuts, so there really is something to be said for the differences between boys and girls. ::yes::

It was a very fun trip- lots more to come! :thumbsup2 Thank-you!!

Loving it...all those wonderful pictures!!! Forgot how much fun RnRC is.

But you know, with cupcake in your TR title, I keep thinking about red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. Just might have to get one tonight...date night at DL.

Thanks but...lucky you!! Date night at DL??? :worship: :worship: :worship: I want to go to DL soooooo badly, but it never seems to work out! Ah well....one day....:goodvibes

Have a great date night- and a great cupcake (and the cupcake part of the story is the last day, so sorry for all the suspense! :scared1:

I MISS Disney-- what a great update! I've never had ghirardelli ice cream, but I'm addicted to the 60% dark chocolate squares!!!! Is it any better than regular ice cream?
