Iceland - CC or currency

Hi!
Can anyone who has been to Iceland recently chime in on using a CC and/or local currency. Easy to use CC or should I stock up on local currency? Our apt has a kitchen so we can grocery shop for odds and ends and we will be focusing on the Golden Circle and other spots for the two days, so not sure about places out on that route for CC or local currency? Thanks!

We used both credit cards and currency. We used the ATM at the main bus terminal for some cash.

We didn't need any local currency when we were there last summer with DCL and we did a private tour with stops at local shops/restaurants. We used our cc for everything.
