Hi, has anyone flown with Iceland Air from Glasgow to Orlando and done the free Blue Lagoon trip?

We are going end of November and because we are flying from Glasgow to Orlando via Iceland Air they allow you to go free of charge to the Blue Lagoon ( http://www.bluelagoon.com/ ) instead of being stuck waiting about the Airport for 4 hours.

Anyway questions are if any one can answer 1 or all of them ;)

Q: The site shows photos of babies enjoying the Blue Lagoon but I can't see any advice or information if it's safe for a 19 month old.

Q: Have you done the flight Glasgow to Orlando with the stop over at the Blue Lagoon, is it very rushed or is 4 hours enough time to get off the plane, to the blue lagoon and back again?

The adults in the group are looking forward to this break in the journey and me very much so as I have spent 4 hours kicking about Keflavík international airport and it's not fun I can tell you.

Hi there,
we've done it twice and the Blue Lagoon is fantastic.

I think the bus takes you back to the airport circa 3pm so we still had about 2 hrs at the airport....very boring....so no you're not rushed.

Whilst we enjoyed it we found we were exhausted when we landed(unable to sleep on the plane) on the way back the stopover is an hr....just sitting at the terminal...nothing to look at lol.(when all you want is your bed)

Id do it again if the flights were cheap as chips...next yr we are flying from Manchester with Virgin ... a long drive...but we get there earlier and leave later so it feels like an extra day.

Cant help with the baby ? tho.

Janie

Can't comment on the "stop-over" feature of the flight, I'm sorry. But many years ago (1995?) we did the Blue Lagoon trip while vacationing in Iceland. Although we didn't have children at the time, I do recall there being many families there including quite small children. We would definately take DD there if we get the chance to return to Iceland. :goodvibes

I would do the trip even to sit out on the porch looking onto the lagoon and browse in the gift shop - beats sitting in the airport for ages! :teeth:

If those same models were there, I would gladly sit at the Blue Lagoon for two weeks and get picked up on the way home !!!

Had a look at this but could not see details of the blue lagoon offer?

By the way when are you going? :)

Reid

My SIL FLEW THIS WAY LAST YEAR AND HAD NO COMPLAINTS. WE NEED TO GO THE QUICKEST WAY SO THIS WOULDN'T BE AN OPTION FOR US BUT THEY ENJOYED THE BLUE LAGOON TOUR

Interesting, the fastest way going I could find was British Airways a whole 2 hours quicker but keep in mind you have to hang about Gatwick Airport for a couple of hours and I rather be in the Blue Lagoon than Gatwick Airport ;) however on the way back (when you just want the journey to be over as you got nothing to look forward to but bed) Iceland Air was a good 1h 30min faster than what BA could offer.

Some BA flight combo's took way longer than Iceland Air, and Continental Airlines and KLM (via Amsterdam, so going the wrong way) were not that fast at all, well Continental Airlines did have a ok timed one where you stopped in Newark Airport to change but didn't much fancy that.

However if you know a faster way that's not to expensive to fly from Glasgow to Orlando in the Winter I love to know as I am no expert on the flights yet, but have to admit I did like the BA to London and then Virgin to Orlando fight as the Virgin flight was pretty cool with all the wee extras all be it Virgin is pretty costly I found.

Hi Supercod, because of my sons disablity (he has a broken neck) and now has loads of complicated issues one being can't sit any longer than a certain time so we flew MT so we could go direct. Unfortunately until they start flying out of Glasgow in the winter we can't go to Orlando a part from the summer. My SIL flew icelandair in November and was really happy both with the flight and the price.

for me if it was a choice of longer on the way out or shorter on the way back I would go for shorter on the way back.. going everybody is really excited including the wee ones so the extra time doesn't seem to matter so much but on the way home you just want home :)

I can't understand why the likes of virgin don't fly out of scotland. let us know how you get on.

if we all went at the same time we could charter the plane :flower:
