Ice Storm In Atlanta

Sprinkling pixie dust like crazy for you!
Good luck!!

KevinM,

We are here in Athens, GA and watching Atlanta t.v. channels. If it is any comfort to you the airport is predicting to be up and running early tomoro a.m. Temps will be on the rise tomoro also and that will be a huge help. The problem right now is with the de-icing. Its is just so cold and everything re-freezes. We are not done with this storm - another wave is expected late afternoon but then it will be over. You should do just fine - wish I was going with you!!! Have a great trip.

Thanks for the good news, Mama.

I just hope there is no "backlog", which will affect our flight.

Oh well, I'm going to Disney - what's a few hour delay anyway!

KevinM,

Are you flying Delta? If so, I think you will be fine - they put the currently scheduled folks thru first. If you get on in PA then you're on! Just watch what is in those carry-ons - airport screeners are getting really picky. A good, middle aged, college professor friend had forgotten his swiss army knife was in his backpack a few weeks ago. Used to be if something like that happened they would let you either toss it or go back to try and check it with your luggage. Well, he was arrested. This guy is a grandpa. He has blue eyes, snow white hair, is overweight and wears hearing aides - but he was arrested, cuffed and held in jail 11 hours before being allowed to bond out. So, just check your bags, be happy, dream about how happy you will be this time tomoro!!!

I am on Delta flying out of W/B Scranton. You have reduced my anxiety level greatly! I'll be sure to have a dole whip in your honor on Monday!!

As far as the screeners go, I guess it is better to be safe than sorry. It does seem that they went a little overboard with your friend. OK, A LOT overboard. It is very unfortunate that our world has become so dangerous that Swiss Army knives are getting people thrown in jail. But, I'm not going to start that debate!

Thanks again.... :wave2:

KevinM,

Had no precip since 3 o'clock. The worst is over. Our temps are holding steady. You are on your way to some February magic!!!! Oh, by the way, I prefer the pineapple dole whips!!! The Quacks will be thinking of you and yours this time tomoro!!!!

Lots of pixie dust coming to you right now!

The ice storm was HORRIBLE!!!
We were stuck in it driving from Chicago to Orlando. It started almost as soon as we crossed the TN boarder and continued all the way to Macon. 75 was closed for almost two hours due to a wreck, and after that we inched along at 10 mph and saw literally more than half a dozen jack knifed and flipper trucks and too many crashed cars to count. I can see why they were unable to get the planes deiced. I was praying the whole way and convinced we were going to get in a crash as the roads were like a skating rink.

Barb, I forgot this was the weekend you were traveling. Hope you arrived ok. What a weekend. :(

Yes, thank God, we made it safely! I have never been so happy to get out of a car in my life. The worst of it was between the Tennessee border and the part of 75 that leads to Atlanta, as they hadn't salted/graveled it yet. I feel so sorry for the truckers, especially the two who were in the flipped trucks we saw. As we approached the city, at least one lane was usually salted/graveled in most areas, although there were still stretches of ice and lots more accidents. After we got to the outskirts of the city and approached Macon, it was more like slushy snow, which I'm used to dealing with. I have never driven in anything like that in my entire life! In some spots, it was literally impossible to stop. I would have just pulled off the road and spent the night there, but we had a car full of cats, a bird, and fish so we had to keep going.
