Ice skating in Disneyland??

I last time I went to Disneyland they had ice skating at the disneyland resort. Does anyone know if they still have ice skating there or somewhere else? Thanks!!

We go every holiday season. We have never seen ice skating there. Was this in the 1990's. I bet Sherry knows the answer to this question.

Hee hee! My ears (or eyes) must have been burning! You know, oddly, I think the ice skating must have taken place at the DLH during the little gap of time when I was not there in the '90s. I think it was after the Candy Cane Lane stuff they used to do for the holidays but before DTD and the GCH were built. I was away from DLR from like 1995 through 1999, and when I went back in 2000, I don't recall an ice skating rink at the DLH, nor do I remember one in 1994. So it would have had to be during those times or back in the mid-'80s?

However, if it is any consolation, I do seem to vaguely remember hearing something about the ice skating - I think it was where the marina used to be in the DLH, and I thought it sounded like a really cool idea. I acually miss the whole Candy Cane Lane set-up they used to have and I wish they could still do it at the DLH!

Yes, there used to be an ice skating rink at the Disneyland Hotel during the holidays where the marina used to be. It is now the Neverland Pool so no more ice skating. Not much of anything going on at the DLH since DtD was built.

But was the ice skating happening during that window of time between, say, 1995 and 1999? It must have been then, right? I just don't recall seeing a rink in the early '90s, unless we somehow walked past it!!

I actually wish someone would put out a book on the history of the holidays at Disneyland (with plenty o' photos, of course!). Or, if there was not enough material to use for a book on the history of the holidays at DLR alone, it could be a book (maybe a coffee table book) about the holidays at all the Disney parks around the world. I think that would be glorious! And I would love to see how the decorations and celebrations evolved over time at the different resorts (including all the hotels). There could be photos of the old Candy Cane Lane at the DLH, to the unique decorations at Epcot, to the elaborate, edible displays in the hotels of WDW, to the IASWH in DLR, etc., etc.

Yeah, it was around that time. The first time my family and I ever "discovered" the DLH was December of 1995, and the rink was there.

I say 'discovered' because we always stayed offsite and never had any inclination that the DLH had all the entertainment options that it did. Until that fateful trip when we decided to check it out. After that, we were always hanging out over there when we weren't at the parks! Then DtD came along, and DLH suddenly became a shell of its former self. :-/

I know. I am forever saddened by the fact that so many restaurants and shops and just extra 'stuff' around the DLH was lost when DTD and GCH, etc. came along. You are right - it really IS a shell of its former self. I remember being on a DLR trip in 1991 and my silly male friends wanted to find a kazoo somewhere - just to be annoying, I think. The ONLY place they could find a kazoo was in that old toy shop in DLH. And we also went with them to the old Sgt. Preston's Yukon Saloon where they did karaoke. If I were to go back to the DLH with those same friends today, they would be so surprised that neither of those places exist anymore! (Not to mention the fact that we all ate a nice meal at the Monorail Cafe, too, but don't even get me started on how much I miss that!)

When we were there in '97 DLH was advertising the ice skating and fantasy waters show. Not sure if it was there in '99 though...

Like Sherry and others have said, there was so much to do, the grounds were manicured and impeccable, there were places to explore and find little hidden gems and as a kid it was one of the best hotels you could ever imagine staying in. It was truly one-of-a-kind in its heyday.

Yes, we, too, were all about staying at the DLH until one year when the prices seemed to go up significantly, and then all of a sudden the PPH was a cheaper option! I have grown to like the PPH for what it is, but in its heyday, as you said, you could really stay at the DLH for a whole day of not going into the parks at all and enjoy all that the hotel had to offer on its own. So many extra shops!! It really was much more of a 'resort hotel.' Even though I am glad they expanded their hotel horizons to offer more than just the DLH, I wish there had been a way to preserve the DLH of the '80s and '90s and still build DTD, the GCH, etc. That's the one thing people always say about the hotels of DLR as opposed to the hotels of WDW - the WDW hotels are much more 'Resort-like' in every way and the DLR hotels are not. So here we had our one and only little 'resort hotel' at DLR and it was downsized, so many people today don't realize that it WAS once like that!!!

The hotel was formerly known as the Emerald Hotel of Anaheim, Pan Pacific Hotel, and Disneyland Pacific Hotel before acquiring its current moniker in December 2000. The property originally opened as the Emerald Hotel in 1984 and was later known as the Pan Pacific Hotel. Disney purchased the property in December 1995 and changed its name to Disneyland Pacific Hotel. As part of the 1998-2001 expansion of the Disneyland Resort, the hotel was re-branded as Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel to complement the themed land the hotel tower overlooks in the adjacent Disney's California Adventure Park.

yeah I havent been there since the 90's when I was like 10 years old!!! Im sad there isnt any ice skating anymore because I would love to go ice skating when we go there.
