Ice Cream Social - The Garden Grill

I have read that an ice cream social complete with Disney Characters is held on certain afternoons in the Garden Grill Restuarant in The Land pavillion at Epcot.

Has anyone also heard of this or even attended the event, and if so, is priority seating available or recommended?

PS is essential for the Ice Cream Social - and the sooner you make it the better as it fills up (it is held every day incidently)...it is not advertised, but word of mouth has made this a very popular meal. Walk-ins are not allowed - in fact when I was just there in August, I asked at the podium on the off chance that I could be seated for it later that afternoon (it only has seatings at 3 and 3.30 I seem to recall) and was told that to attend, a PS needs to now be made no less than 24 hours in advance. I believe you also need a credit card when making the PS to secure it as well.

The ICS, is however, really good. You get something along the lines of a great big waffle cone, stuck in an upright position with melted chocolate on your plate, with ice cream, fresh fruit, wafers etc. YUM. Plus, you get all the benefits of a regular Character meal for a fraction of the price - it's a great way to cool down on a hot afternoon

aah, that explains a lot Penny. I told some friends about it recently, and when they went to the garden grill they were told it didn' t exist! I guess they needed to have a PS first.

We are going to WDW in two weeks and during our stay we have booked an Ice Cream Social. This will be a first so i can't recommend or tell you what its like. I could when we get back (although I dont want to think about coming back already) but do you want to wait that long?

We did have to make a PS for it and they did take a credit card ref, however we were told they will only credit your card if you don't show up. You can cancel up to 24 hours before your reservation if you wish without charge.

The cost is $6.75 plus tax and gratuity per person (same charge for children or adults).

Another thing I have heard that you can have at the Ice-Cream Social is a re-hitchin' ceremony. The cm's re-marry you to your spouse, and sometimes the characters get involved too (so I've heard).

So if you're on honeymoon, anniversary or just feeling romantic you can ask the cm's to carry this out. It's just a bit of fun and free too.
