You will get many answers for and many against on this subject. My experience was poor. The ice cream was a single scoop of vanilla presented very nicely on a waffle cone attached to a chocolate chip cookie. The kids were in waffle bowls. For my money this was very expensive (over $40.00 with beverages, tax and tip for 4) and we received very little character interaction. The ice cream here is pre-made and ours had an off "freezer taste." Many others have had more positve experiences. If you decide to go enjoy!

Ours was excellent and I can't say enough about it. I ordered the sugar-free item and my blood sugar testing proved it was sugar free but I never would have believed it! It was fantastic. My dd enjoyed the whole experience.

I did order milk for DD and I had water with lemon. It was pricey but that was one of our few big treats.

We have reservations for our upcoming trip. I floated the question also and got varied responses, but we are going for it. I think it's going to be great :D

It's an expensive bowl of ice cream....but it is Disney. Magic doesn't come cheap ;)

I will let you know how it goes...

My daughter and I did this for the first time during our trip two weeks ago. We had a lovely experience and had a lot of interaction with Mickey, Goofy, Chip, and Dale.

I just put a few photos from the Ice Cream Social in my on-line photo album: click here to view them. The photos aren't the greatest, but they should give you a little glimpse of what the ice cream looks like.

janet thank you very much for the link to the pics of the ice cream- pics were great!!

We did this in March, and it was great! The ice cream was delicious - fresh tasting, with bits of vanilla bean all through it. The accoutrements were delicious as well, a huge cookie, and plenty of chocolate decorations! The kids loved theirs too - they had gummy worms as well. It was 7.95 per person, I think, or thereabouts.

When you consider they add an entertainment fee of $5 for people who attend a character meal without eating, you are really only paying $3.00 for this enormous sundae & cookie. That is truly a bargain for Disney! They gave us water at no charge, we only paid for lemonades for two of our daughters, and coffee for DH.

The character's attention was great. Chip and Dale spent at least 15 minutes at our table (It was a quiet afternoon!), and Mickey and Pluto came by several times as well.

We started our trip with this meal, and it may become a tradition! Test Track was only open this day during our trip, and my oldest really wanted to try it! I didn't think I would get DH to agree to go to Epcot immediately upon arriving, especially with Spectromagic only showing that evening. We really lucked out - we got Fast Passes to Test Track, rode Spaceship Earth, watched the Circle of Life, went to the Ice Cream Social, back to Test Track for our Fast Pass time, and still had time to hop over to MK for 7:00 Spectromagic, arriving about 6 - getting a great spot, and sending my oldest two over to Casey's to bring back a snack during the parade!

Another Positive experience at the Ice Cream Social.

We went last August, and had a great time. The server was a bit slow (tired after lunch maybe?) but perked up before we left.

The characters (Farmer Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale) were great for us. They all went by twice while we were there, and Mickey spent a TON of time with DDs doing an entire wordsearch puzzle with them. They LOVED it! :bounce:

The Ice Cream was very good (but Beaches and Cream is MUCH better if you are in it ONLY for the Ice Cream! ;) )

I've included pictures of the Adult and Kids sundaes:

We did this once and enjoyed it. The ice cream was fine - nothing about it stands out in my mind. What I DO remember was if we ever went again with the family (20+ of us), it would be a reasonable alternative for all the toddlers in the family to attend a character event.

On the other hand, because of the way the Garden Grille is designed, it felt more intimate while interacting with the characters. In large area-like eateries (Chef Mickey's), you may frequently end up with someone else's toddler grabbing a hold of CHip or Dale's tail during your photo op. When Chip n Dale came over to the table, Pluto came over to play and it was just my DD and the three of them poking fun, playing with her and writing jokes on the napkins. She had a great time!

We enjoyed it for the time out, the mid-day break and the change of pace from a large room full of people.

We did the Ice Cream Social last Thursday - 11/14. It was terrific. We were seated promptly and Mickey came by immediately.

The ice cream was more than "a scoop" -- we had more than enough to overfill a waffle cone. There was a chocolate wedge on one of the scoops and a cookie on another. The cone was set on a chocolate chip cookie, sealed with chocolate (Magic Shell?). There were a couple of gummi worms on the plate also.

For $7 it was a terrific break from walking through Epcot. We also ordered pink lemonade to drink, so our total was around $22 (I think) with tax and gratuity.

I highly recommend this. The kid's version is a little different.

If your kids like the characters, then its a big yes. It may cost a bit more for the fancy ice cream, but when you consider the characters for the kids to enjoy its actually the lowest cost character meal in all of WDW.
